"We will scrimmage our young guys maybe once, for sure, but you can't spend a whole lot of time with those guys like you could if you were playing a Dec. 30 bowl or into January," Stockstill said. "You just don't have enough time to practice your developmental guys."

This is one area, outside of recruiting, that helps programs that make it to a bowl game. In most cases, you get what is essentially an extra spring practice session that non-bowlers don't get. Seeing the Troy doesn't play until Jan. 6th, they will have plenty of time to work their younger guys.
