Should use the savings to get Dye or Vlad. If that happens, not bad for a guy who was a few starts away from being gone anyway.

Meh...on paper its unimpressive...but if Ray can find even a glimer of his 07 stuff and the Rangers use the free money well this could be a huge boon for Texas.

Completely agree - but with CJ and Feliz potentially entering the rotation, plus the meetings with Sheets, Brett Myers and others this week, getting a decent arm for Millwood to cover the 7th or 8th is not terrible.

I fear what Seattle is doing.

Using the money to sign Rich Harden today -- who saw that coming?

I do love the Harden signing with the 2011 club option. However, I fear what happened today didn't necessarily make things better. Chris Ray is a project coming off TJ, so who knows. Harden is decent, but I wonder if he is a dramatic upgrade over Milly. I guess at the end of the day Texas saved 1M dollars. So good for broke ass Hicks Co. Can't wait until money doesn't hold JD back from IMPROVING this club. All I want for X-mas is a new Rangers owner.

As a front guy -- no way in hell. If you slot Harden, Feldman, Hunter, Feliz and a competition between CJ, Harrison and Holland for the last spot with two of them going to the bullpen, and then having Francisco, O'Day, possibly Holland, Rapada and Ray to make a much more (potentially) over-powering bullpen seems to look nice on paper. I think they still need another arm, utility man, catcher and a DH that the current owner won't spring for, but I expected no movement whatsoever, so at least JD is doing his best with a crappy ownership situation.

All things being equal, if healthy, Harden > Millwood. Problem is, that's a massive, pulsating "IF". Harden has ace stuff, but Millwood is a horse.

Now, Newberg is talking a Max Ramirex/Mike Lowell swap in the works.... unexpected, for me anyway.

Any word on Sheets' health and how on the radar that could even be after today?

Sheets is throwing 60 ft but not off a mound. He wants 10-12M a year, but - think he'll be hard-pressed to find that. I consider him a long shot...although Lackey is supposedly still in play, so who knows.

I've gotta think Lackey goes big market for big money, and kind of weakens the pool of buyers once he's gone. I haven't heard who all is in on Sheets, but I have to think our only chance to even sniff that is if there are massive fears about his health and he's stuck looking at one year deals w/ an option (a la Harden). Even then, I can't see it.

Barring other developments, what do you do w/ the 8th this year as of opening day? O'Day? Situational? Someone who misses out on a rotation spot?

Speaking of the rotation, where's McCarthy on your radar?

The player to be named later in the Millwood deal.....will be a player that the Orioles pick for the Rangers in the Rule V draft. The O's pick third, as I recall....and will pick the player that the Rangers want them to.
