I agree, Darius deserves this award. And if he does, how stupid will it look that we followed it up by firing his position coach?

Only at North Texas.

Rick

Can we give the OL coach a raise?

I don't consider it to look stupid to fire any of the mentioned coaches. The one who should get credit for D. Carey is Coach Shelton Gandy (and Tyler Stradford the RS player). Get a bona fide OC in here, get a WR's coach who teaches them how to run routes, and how to block when the ball isn't in their hands, and the opening of Rausch's job allows for a viable defensive assistant to join DeLoach, Petersen, Buckles, and Nelson on that side.

I would not be surprised if Riley Dodge is named Freshman of the Year though.

It would SHOCK me if he got Freshman of the Year. He lead the league in INT's I believe and he did it in just over what amounts to 9 games played.

Which is why I also have doubts Lance gets Offensive MVP. But he does deserve it.

That would surprise me in a big way. Unfortunately, he made many more big bad plays than he made big good plays. I really love the guy as an offensive athlete, but I just think he is out of position as an everyday "D1A" QB. That thought is not exactly groundshakingly new, but I just want to see TD give the other guys a chance to prove me wrong. Don't think it will happen. Barring health reasons, sad to say that I think we will have the same father and son duo running the team again next year. Hopefully RV or the new OC will speak up on the issue.

How did I know you would be the first to respond...

Yes, he did lead the league in INTs. Absolutely. Fact.

On the other hand, he was 9th in the league in rushing, 2nd in completion per game, 5th in passing efficiency (middle of the pack), 7th in Points responsible per game, and 3rd in total offense (per game).

He also won 2 Offensive POW awards.

And he is a freshman, which also qualifies him for the award.

He got mmost of his stats as well while skipping out on the two toughest games and being knocked out 1/2 way against Ohio. Stats looked real good against Ball St and WKU, but how would he have faired against Bama and Troy? Probably worse than what he looked like against ULM and MTSU

Right On! If we could just get a WR coach to do that we may end up with a running back that can finally break 1400 yards rushing for the season.

I would imagine the fumbles would pretty much even out the turnovers. The total offense per game was just about even (edge to Riley by one yard). Vizza had alot more attempts, Riley more rushing yards.

I know you all think Riley sucks, but this year's Freshman quaterback is the same or better than the one two years ago. You know, the one that one Freshman of the Year...

Personally, I don't think Riley sucks at all. He is a very talented football player. I just think that he lacks some of the tools to lead us to the promised land as a QB. Some guys have the tools to dramatically improve, and some guys don't. If his father is here and continues to designate him as the stating QB, then I hope he proves his detractors wrong. We shall see.

I was hoping that in the off season Riley would be able to work with our strength coach and build his arm up more to stretch the field without the rainbow. I wonder how the broken arm will factor into this? I know some guys that come back even stronger because an injury like this forces them to rehab and it becomes their focal point. I don't remember hearing much about the break other then it was his forearm, was it just a hairline fracture or what?

That comment about the WR's had nothing to do with RB production. It just has to do with the fact that when you watch every ballgame and really dissect it, how many key blocks did the WR's make? What do they do when the ball is not thrown their way or coming their way? Quick hint to the previous 2 questions: None, Nothing. Watch the SEC title game on Saturday in Atlanta, and pay close attention to the Florida and Bama WR's. As soon as either the ball is not thrown their way, or the play goes the other direction, those guys are hustling to block instantly. It's quite impressive actually, but that's how it should be. Now, if you tune into a North Texas game, all you see is the WR's quit dead in their tracks when the ball wasn't thrown to them, and then spectate; which is lazy and falls on that position coach. You do that at Florida or Bama, and you're on the bench. I don't care if your Julio Jones or the 5th WR on the depth chart. And that's how it needs to be at North Texas.
