Looking at their schedule the UNT game is an exhibition game for them. They also play UTEP and ULM after us. 2-6 as of Sunday, including a 111-51 trouncing at another school I've never heard of...

Some of our family works at UNT and they say this is a game that they are using as a "Staff Appreciation" game or something of the such. They pointed out that they will be working, so they won't be able to take advantage of it.

When is a win not a win?

When it's against a NAIA team.

In the eyes of the NCAA we'll still be 3-2 after this game...win, lose or draw.

That's not true at all. They still count the same to the NCAA. It won't effect our RPI, but then again Division 2 wins don't either.

This is the only year where I can't wait until the home conferance opener!!!!

This schedule sucks, but next two years are gona kick ass!

You don't have to wait long. The home conference opener in Dec. 13 this year vs. Louisiana-Monroe.

Some game notes that I received via e-mail from the Ath. Dept.:

Josh White poured in 23 points at Boise State, which vaults him into 30th place in school history in career points. Just five games into his junior season White already has 850 career points.

NT is 69th in the country in scoring with 78.0 points per game, but is doing it with a multi-faceted attack. Ten different players are averaging double-digit minutes, and seven players are averaging more than six points per game.

The Univ. of the Southwest ranks 30th in the NAIA in 3-pointers made per game and 31st in 3-point field goal percentage. Jawaan Payne is the squad's main 3-point threat, and ranks 25th in 3-pointers per game.

This will be the first meeting between North Texas and the University of the Southwest, which is an NAIA program from Hobbs, N.M. Founded in 1962, the University of the Southwest has a total enrollment of 557.

Univ. of the Southwest was picked to finish eighth in the 11-team Red River Athletic Conference in their annual preseason coaches poll after finishing the 2008-09 campaign with a 7-15 record. Texas Wesleyan headed the poll, and entered the year ranked 10th in the NAIA National Top 25 Poll.

Univ. of the Southwest went 2-5 in its opening stretch of regular season games, and is in the middle of a five game exhibition season. The Mustangs have fallen to their first two exhibition opponents, Southern Utah (111-51) and New Mexico Highlands (109-61), by an average of 54 points.

(Now back to my thoughts: Methinks our record for most points scored in a game......could be in jeopardy).

Why are we playing this team ?

Why are we playing this team at noon on a weekday ?

Do we expect any support (cheerleaders, dancers, band, university president, athletic director) people to be in attendance ?

Is this a home and home ? Do we have to go to Hobbs, NM next year on a Wednesday noon ?

Yeah, I have to agree that it sounds pretty ridiculous. Why didn't we schedule Texas Wesleyan or someone that might provide a little local interest if we just HAD to schedule a NAIA team at this point? Hope JJ uses this as an opportunity to decide who will be getting the minutes on our big upcoming road trip. A lot of decisons to be made in that regard if we are going to have a more settled starting lineup. Now, watch us go out and lose. Naw!
