Get a damn grip. This is not about "homophobia" Why do we have to have a "gay" homecoming court? If this passes, I will demand an all black homecoming court, and all white homecoming court, and all Latino homecoming court, and all Asian homecoming court, an all greek homecoming court, and an all residence hall homecoming court. I mean after all, we have to have EQUAL opportunity, right?

You do realize that latino, black, etc. couples are all able to run for homecoming court under the current rules, right? You are aware that what you're "demanding" is already possible, right?

If a tuition-paying sheep in good academic standing wants to run for homecoming court... I honestly don't give a crap. Because it's HOMECOMING COURT. Maybe at Western Kentucky, a farm animal could get enough fraternity votes to win an election... But I doubt it ever happens here. And even if it does, it's HOMECOMING COURT - freakin' transient... Never mind.

CaribbeanGreen is right though...there's really no "right" to be gained here. It's just attention-mongering by a select few who are making a spectacle out of themselves and our university. This world has gotten so politically correct that rational decisions for the good of the whole are no longer possible. Instead, we cave to the otherwise ridiculous demands of the special interest groups in fear of them taking their cause to the news media. This fight isn't about Homecoming court selection at all. In fact, I'd be surprised if any gay candidates would really run for Homecoming King and Queer.

It's funny no one went up in arms when Teflon Todd had his racism fiasco come through. You want to talk mud on the face of the university, look there. You want to talk negative effects on recruiting, look there. The worst stint EVER by an NT coach, and I'm obviously not only talking win/loss percentages, has occurred the last 3 years under this man. I don't think homecoming nominations will mean 2 rat turds to any potential recruit.

Because there was no truth to it, good god, just a grumpy pissed off immature player and buddy. Even the NAACP investigated and found nothing at all.

Black couples were winning homecoming court for all the years I went to UNT.

      blowing out a Q3 team should not matter that much, the predicted metrics had us winning by over 10 anyway. For a top 75 school to move up 10 spots at this point in the season usually takes something significant. Usually other schools need to drop down (Dayton did), also McNeese and has been looking good lately, that could also help.

      Agree with this. Denton has never embraced UNT as "it's" school to support with the town.

      Yes, the local media was really hyping the Blizzard of the Century coming today. I could also tell by the hoarding going on and low stock on shelves at the grocery stores.

      I believe we have had more games without classes in session. If someone has the academic calendar handy for this year and last, I can work up the exact numbers. Knowing we would have more games played during the academic break (and the horrible slate of games the AD put together) is exactly why it was critical for the AD to work extra hard getting the surrounding community to the games. I live too far away to know if they've done anything, but based on the results, I don't know if they have...certainly nothing that's moved the needle. It's like they just take time off when students aren't around. We need the so-called t-shirt fans from in and around Denton. What has the AD done to generate excitement and stimulate demand for the program? Whatever it is, it's been a complete failure IMHO. We have a team and program on the rise. It's WINNING games on a regular basis. Based on the last few years, we had a lot of momentum going into this season and it's been squandered in epic fashion. I doubt they are doing anything and just running out the clock waiting for the students to return so they can continue to do nothing. Here's an idea...It seems Jared enjoys his court-side seat. How about running a "switch seats with the AD" promotion? Each half one lucky attendee is drawn and gets to sit court-side and Jared moves to the cheap seats. Who knows, maybe you only get a handful of extra tickets out of it, but we're moving in the wrong direction.

      We have the volume, just nobody cultivating those relationships. Seems Denton proper feels little to no ownership in the university even though it's a large driver of the local economy. As @UNTLiferccommented, things like the homecoming parade have disappeared. They've made every move necessary to make the school and the city separate entities.
