Here's a quick overview of last nights game as I saw it:

Josh White - What you can say other than he picked the team up on his shoulders and carried them to victory. At times, he appeared to dribble to much when a pass was the best option. I am getting closer to agreeing, after initially refuting, that he might be best at the 2.

Dominique Johnson - His exceptional speed really changed up the game for the short time he was in. I really like Johnson at the point. Shoulder pain froze him after he stole the ball. All he could do was lob a 3-point shot and leave the game. I fear that Dominique won't be 100% for quite a while.... disappointing.

George Odufuwa - what a game he played! We can expect many more wins if G.O. plays like this each game. Scoring plus rebounds! Improved free throw shooting too! A man among boys when rebounding.

Alzee Williams - pleasant, pleasant surprise. He looked good last night and made some clutch free throws. He's skinny, but I noticed when he changed his shirt at the bench that he is really ripped. Alzee may turn out be a golden find by Jones. We may yet again in the coming years have some talented height at PG.

Jacob Holmen - Holmen really shined last night. I think we got a glimpse of the greatness that he will develop into. A super athlete. He will play serious minutes this season as freshman. He takes occasionally ill advised shots, particularly the 3. However, I have watched him in warm-ups and he sinks the 3 consistently. It is just a matter of time before we have an outside threat from a big men. This will really open up the lane for our other big men b/c when Holmen goes outside he will force their post-man to follow.

Shannon Shorter - if not for a few missed easy, close up shots he would have had a spectacular night.... Shannon could easily become the McCoy style play we saw at the end of last season.

Eric Tramiel - steady as always. Good, but not great game. He appeared to re-injure his wrist again.... I really hope not b/c we really need him in the line up!

Triston Thompson - not his best game, but a consistent effort. He still needs to work on the offensive charges that seem to get called on him each game. I do love his aggressiveness to the basket though.

Richard Thomas - May be the victim of a loaded bench. He barely made it on the floor last night despite looking good the past 2 games. I suspect that he might develop into a Sturns style role with big things to come for Mr. Thomas.

Few general comments: My biggest concern for this team is that we have started slow now for all 3 games. This will KILL us against the OSUs and TAMUs of the world. JJ needs to fix this quickly....... I noticed some frustration in our big men plus Shorter when Josh more or less stopped distributing the ball to the post or failed to hit Shorter when he slashed/cut to the basket and was open. In fact, I noticed our big men standing around from time to time under the basket knowing they wouldn't get the ball...... Did anyone catch that we had 3 PGs in the game from time-to-time (Johnson/White/Williams)... haven't seen that one before....... JJ has enormous confidence in our new players as we had freshman or newly transferred players on the floor throughout the game, including in critical overtime moments...... Last, I cannot think of a better style game to break in our new players, get the freshman/transfers March-like basketball experience in preparation for OU and TAMU, and to harden this team for long, hard close games that surely await us.

I've been losing more sleep thinking about how we match up with Kansas, Butler and Syracuse.

We shot 15 three pointers. I believe the average per team last year in a game was 17. And we played a Double OT affair, so we were actually quite a bit under the 17 in 40 minute mark.

We shot 77% from the line tonight. Not great, but hardly terrible.

You're probably right in both aspects, it just seemed that we constantly went for a three when it wasnt needed. And we seemed to miss many threes when we were trying to come back, and when we had a chance to gain a lead.

Actually I meant the OSUs, who we play Saturday, of the world... fixed!
