with Houston's loss, is in a position to win the CUSA West with a halftime lead on UTEP.

I am not of the anti-Dodge mob, but this is really hard to ignore.

I understand the argument of needing 5 years and it still has validity. But these 2 - 3 year turnarounds are becoming an expectation, rather than an exception.

Also, he is winning with only one year of recruiting under his belt.

Been thinking the same thing all day long. Up until recently I'd been a fairly vocal Dodge supporter. People wanna talk about the progress we've shown this year.... IT AIN'T PROGRESS FOLKS. We could win two more games this season and it's still not year three progress. I despise SMU.

We are demanding fans, I think Coach Dodge will be a great coach some day, I hope sooner then later. But SMU paid for a very experienced coach with a good budget for assistant coaches, we paid to have a coach go through a learning curve. I think the last phase of Dodge's learning curve is to do a 180 on the intensity of practice, run it hard, full speed, and get the coaches in these guy's faces. I also think our strength coach will really start paying off by next year. Even Riley's arm strength will increase with time making the long threat better, though I still wonder about his ability to see over the line. One of the guys in my group feels Riley's height is a big problem.

June Jones and SMu now have more wins in 1 season than TD has in almost 3 years. Sad , really sad.

Congrats to the Ponies

Not really sad at all Jones is getting paid nearly 10 times more, there is a difference. Definitely not apples to apples unless we had a 2 million+ Dollar Coach.

Really? So the return on investment is a salary ratio?

It upsets me slightly that some of you (not necessarily you, KingDL because a sarcasm alert is going off in my head after re-reading your reply) concede that we "settled" on a coach knowing that there would be a tremendous learning curve and no guarantee for a turnaround. Even though we arguably have the same resources in other areas as SMU, and kinder entrance requirements?

Did we take a gamble like our football program is some sort of eBay auction? Is the reality of what we have here finally materializing for even the most avid Dodge fans?

Let's just get ahead of this curve now, start winning and put this all behind us :)

In a way we did, but an experienced Coach like Jones is in a different league then Dodge from the start. Maybe Dodge in Ten years. What can I say, would you really expect the same results?

We could have got an experienced coach as well and Dodge has college experience, so he knew what he was getting into. RV had his eyes tagged on TD the whole time.

We could have gotten any number of D1-AA or D2 Coaches with loads of experience for the same price or cheaper than Dodge. My personal favorites would have been Carthel at WT A&M or Conque at UCA.

I am not defending Dodge here please, and I am not arguing we could hired better.

I am just saying you can't really compare a head coach with an extensive proven track record with a promoted coach with no experience as a head coach, it is silly, stupid, off the charts. Not matter who we hired we would have never got a guy that was a proven winner in D1a as a head coach simply because those guys are going to cost a million dollars or better. Maybe some day we will be able to afford such a guy.

Dodge was a Quarterback's coach when we were D1AA not D1A and it was only two years something like 16 years ago, are you really comparing that to a Proven winning D1A Head coach, I will repeat WINNING HEAD COACH with 8 or years experience at doing it plus 11 years coaching the NFL and more? Really?

If you are it very silly.

So Dodge's 79-1 game record at the 5A level was pure luck because he had trained athletes?

What the hell are you talking about?

Really High school Experience compared to Pro Experience and a proven winner as a Head Coach in D1A (FBS)?

You are saying it is all the same?

Ok so when will Dodge not meet your expectations? when he goes winless?

I never said Dodge did meet my expectations!

But if you really want to know how long I think it takes a High Coach like Dodge to get it figured out I would say considerably longer then a proven head coach at our level.

Hell it might take Dodge 6 or 8 years to get it all figured out, for all I know.

I am not a Dodge poster boy, I feel fairly certain about two things:

1) I believe there is no way around keeping Dodge for at least one more year.

2) I think Dodge can be a great Coach with Time.

So I am not going to piss and moan about it, I hope he is successful that is best for everyone involved.

If Dodge gets fired tomorrow and we pick up a coach that can get it done I will be overjoyed. I just want to win.

Urban Meyer was a wide receivers coach at Notre Dame when Bowling Green took a chance on him. Lots of guys out there like that.
