I've been fighting with the Mean Green premium service for the better part of an hour trying to get it to play for more than 5 minutes. Now I remember why I never buy the damn thing. Better to just listen to KNTU online than this.

Just leaving it open and minimized while I chat with German teens in my other chat room.

Am I the only one on here that finds it absolutely embarrassing that we lost to TWU in an athletic event? Seriously?

losing bad to ulm in football was just as embarrassing if not more.

NT wins by 18. A bit sloppy, but not a bad effort for a first exhibition game. Hopefully we'll look sharper against Cameron on Friday. It's here folks - ready to tip it off.

Thomas and Shorter looked really good.....especially Thomas. Holmen came on in the second half---but looked like he had freshman jitters in his first game. I expect Jacob will play much better on Friday.

Pretty decent crowd.

Why was Dom held out?

Why was Dom held out?

They mentioned something about nursing a minor ailment I believe? It was mentioned once early on, and I only half heard it. Said he'd be playing Friday.

Richard Thomas look great... really polished... Shorter also looks like he could be something special.... Holmen did look a little nervous but stepped it up as the game went on.... We all had Howerton flashbacks when Ft. Knox drop a pass under the basket.

I saw a couple of players sitting on the bench that I had never seen. I checked our roster and sure enough there are 2 new players, presumably walk ons:

Egenti, Jamie...F...6-8...265...Jr.....Watauga, TX (North Lake College) (Haltom HS)

Hall, Tyler...G....6-2...175...South Pampa, TX (Pampa HS)

Hey, there is a game tonight against Newman...yes, it's an exhibition, but it's MEAN GREEN BASKETBALL. Anyone going? Wife and I will be there in the "usual spot". Coach Trilli is the AD at Newman...maybe we can welcome him back to the Super Pit.

Let me guess, it's a night game, so certainly the students and fans will not be able to show up...man, if it were only a day game. There, a ready made excuse for poor attendance by the student body and fans...I'll wager there will be many more alums and fans in the stands than students...always are...I wonder why?

Any buzz around campus about the start of the basketball season? I hope so...team looks to be ready to contend for the title BIG TIME this season...GO MEAN GREEN.

All you folks "giving up" on the football team should come to the Super Pit this evening and start the BB season off with a decent crowd. Can't wait to hear all the excuses...just can't get to Denton for a 7PM tip off, it's Wednesday and I have to go to church (OK, you might get a pass on that one), it's JUST an exhibition game, it's a week night, I don't like Coach Dodge, the team doesn't use a tight end, I don't like the way the new business building looks, the new stadium won't seat enough people, I had to study, my girlfriend/boyfriend doesn't like basketball, Johnny Jones will only play his own son at point guard (oh, that's right Josh White isn't really Johnny's son, but that won't really matter), etc.

Come on...it's basketball season at UNT...let's get it on...see you there!

When there is a double header, the men's game usually does not start until 7:30, so that gives you an extra 30 minutes to get there. I wish the athletic department would list that as the tip off time as I think it would help attendance and the perception that it is to early.

Wichita State played Newman a few days ago and won by 12. This is a decent comparison game. For what its worth, it sounds like Newman gave them a good fight up until the end whereas we pretty much blew out Newman... You read the Witchita/Newman game here.

I agree with SUMG that Thomas and Shorter both looked very good. I saw it the other way... I thought Shorter was the one who really looked electric. Still, I was hoping that one of them would be able to replace Dennis, and I think that either of them should be able to take up that role with no problem. Based on Shorter's defense and excellent drives to the basket, I wouldn't be surprised if CBL was right and Shorter assumes Tristan's starting role once Dom is back.

Holmen is way more than I dared to hope he would be in his first year. He's definitely big enough to take over Hogans' minutes inside.

Knox looks like a newborn pony, just not covered in amniotic fluid. Hopefully he'll find his rhythm and move with more confidence. He can shoot the ball nicely, though. He still looks like too much of a project to play significant minutes. Maybe it was just nerves and he'll settle down a little bit. Even if he doesn't this season, in a couple of years... He could be a very valuable asset.

Wish we could have seen a little more from Cam Spencer.

Adam McCoy was in the house tonight. Glad to see him.

Less welcome? There were a few girls screaming for Johnny to "PUT IN NUMBER TWELVE!!!" Given where they were sitting, I think they were NT fans looking for Nick Goff to get some playing time within the first eight minutes of the game. If Nick happens to read this board... Tell your girlfriend or your sister (or whoever that was) that you appreciate the support, but maybe she shouldn't have her expectations too high on the PT front.

I'm very glad the season has arrived. Can't wait for Friday.

Same flashbacks as you had when Knox drove strong and finished at the hoop with his left?

I rather liked that

The whole student section started laughing.... and no one had to say why... the resemblance at that point was uncanny.... I feel for Ft. Knox because he will have to overcome some crowd bias toward 6'10" white guys on this team... hopefully he will...

Our greatest luxury last season was JJ being able to point to Collin or Adam and know that he could get instant offense off the bench...I think a move to 6th man for TT gives us a similar threat. Plus JJ has been talking about improving this team's defense and Shorter does that. I still think TT would see the bulk of the minutes, but I think establishing a defensive mindset from the opening tip and having a proven D-1 scorer off the bench is invaluable.

Holmen is way more than I dared to hope he would be in his first year. He's definitely big enough to take over Hogans' minutes inside.

He needs to develop Hogans' shot selection before I feel comfortable with him playing extended minutes. 3-13 from the field. I'll grant you some freshman jitters...but he touched the ball and it went up almost immediatly towards the basket. I don't like that he led the team in shots.

I saw a nice interior pass and a nice, strong left handed drive and finish. I don't think I saw either of those two things in 4 seasons of Howerton. He may not contribute much more than a body this season, and I may be setting a low bar here, but he'll be significantly better than Powerton...and if he's not, I'll take my lumps.

Wish we could have seen a little more from Cam Spencer.

Agreed. 2 minutes, 2 rebounds. He could average 40 boards in a full game...

Adam McCoy was in the house tonight. Glad to see him.

Miss him already.

Stupid girls

Agreed...but this team really needs to clean up their play.

Early season and it showed in some pretty sloppy play, but I agree with SUMG and Tasty. Crowd was better than I expected, but very empty around our seats just off mid-court and beside the press box area. Hopefully, will fill up for the Cameron game. I thought the student crowd was pretty OK for an exhibition game, but the whole Pit was just super quiet most of the game. No vibe no excitement in the air which I found a bit strange for the first game. My wife mentioned it and she rarely notices such things. Well, with the great GMG.com-er Bostonsports doing play by play and/or color for a class assignment and not revving up the student section in his green wig, I blame him for the quiet gym!

He'll be in his rightful place Friday for the Cameron game. That WILL make it right again!

I think this team needs to get into "game shape" and get their feel for the flow of the game and it could very well turn out to be one of JJ's best teams ever. I think 20 plus wins is a doer and am looking for that SBC tourney win for this bunch...I liked what i saw and will like it even more as the season progresses...I pretty darn sure of that.

Another win Friday against Cameron...be there to see the Mean Green tip it off. GO MEAN GREEN.

Thanks for all who managed to make it out for the game. Saw several GMG.com members. Good job!

GO MEAN GREEN!

I don't think anyone mentioned this (if they did I missed it)....but one of the neater plays of the night was a nice steal and breakaway slam by Collin Mangrum. Nice to see him finally healthy again.
