Does anyone suppose there is any correlation to a coach playing his son at QB (at least at this level) and a surgeon not operating on family due to the possibility of impaired judgement/objectivity? Think about it? Not saying that is the case here but just wondering?!

Rodge might have to throw 5+ INT's in a game before they MIGHT put Tune in.

Riley is helluva player and will develop into a good QB at this level, if he's guided by good coaches. If he leaves with his dad, I wouldn't fault him for it. The kid obviously lives his dad, he did follow him here to NT. With that said, most high schools and most college teams run some sort of spread offense. Transitioning to another coach won't be as difficult, IMO, since the chances of hiring one of these coaches is pretty high. I'm confident Riley would thrive in a Pro Style offense. Bootlegs/waggles would fit him well. They'll adapt the offense to him, his height will force the pocket to move and limit the 3 step drop.

I guess others are just high on Riley, but if he is making these kind of mistakes against the lowest ranked teams in the nation, what makes you think his decision making would be better at a larger school, where athletes are bigger and can read QB's better? There is a reason Riley was recruited at big BCSA schools as an athlete and not a QB. On paper yes he is the best QB to come to UNT, I will not say he is a recruit since it is obvious he followed dad.

i doub't if you have seen enough n.t. games to know the difference between a quaterback with a good game vs. one with a good name. also, who else besides n.t. offered rilley a spot as q.b.?

Whatever.

The University of Texas offered and Riley committed--as a QB.

I was my understanding he was promised the CHANCE to try for qb. So while he was not specifically recruited at qb, they were going to give him a chance.

I don't think either he nor his Dad are going any place at the end of this season! There is not enough discontent at the $1000+ a year level of donation.

Riley is a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN.....not a Jr. or Sr.......sounds like you want him to play like an upperclassman.

Dude, NT has played TWO FRESHMEN QB's in THREE years........

ease up on it.

Tired of that arguement, if they were so bad then how the hell did Dodge have his best season then in Year 1, with DD's guys?

Actually, this should be considered Dodge's best year. 2 wins over D1A competition v 1 win over D1A in year one. And there are still 3 games left.

i am afraid that in you think r.d. is best q.b. ever to come our way you need a history lesson. vital carlin and steve ramsey both had n.f.l. careers.in addition, i would put rick shaw, ken washington, jordan case, scott davis, mitch mayher, scott hall, andrew smith, and g. vizza head and shoulders above rilley.

Hmmm, since you are going in historical order, I would take out Rick Shaw and put Joe Milton in his place. I would insert Joe Stevenson (the most underrated QB in NT history) Rusty Hill and Greg Carter between Jordan Case and Scott Davis. Just based on overall potential, I would rate Riley Dodge ahead of A. Smith and G. Vizza.

The school and the program is bigger than the Dodges.

Agree with that 100%. However, if that is the case, why do many give their dislike for TD and RD, for that matter, as their reason for not attending games or supporting the university in any way? Obviously, they really do not care to support the University oer the program and they have found an excuse that they can hang on to. My guess, they didn't come to many games or give much support either through $$$$ or volunteerism even when the team was winning. People can always find an excuse for the lack of support. It's just the way it is with some folks. Too bad...they miss out on a lot of great experiences and the company of a lot of great people.

I would argue that point, Riley has only had great games against teams ranked #120 and #119 in the rest he has played average at best. I would rather have a field general who does try to be the center of every play.

Alsom would be curious to see how our RS Derek Thompson will do next year if he gets a fair shake at least.

Wouldn't this mean we were playing against ourself?

That's pretty close. I could look it up if I had the time, but basically the deal was this: he was offered as a QB, told they were going to try him first as QB, but also told they might move him somewhere else if that didn't work out. Yes, Rivals had him listed as an athlete, but that's not actually a position. QBs can be athletes, too.
