Typical of BCS schools. Unless it is someone you are guaranteed of beating, why schedule them? BCS schools will play eachother for non-conference games (Ohio State - USC, Ohio State - Texas) but to play the non-BCS teams is supposed to be an automatic win.

Here is another great quote from the article:

Last year Utah went 13-0 yet didn’t have a chance to play for the BCS title. At a Congressional subcommittee hearing University of Nebraska chancellor and BCS figurehead Harvey Perlman was asked what the Utes could’ve done differently.

“They could have played the schedule Nebraska did,” Perlman said.

While it’s par for the course for the BCS to have a leader who has no idea how college football works, what can a Boise State do in the face of that kind of ignorance?

If Utah could get to play a BCS type schedule. But for thay are not in a BCS conference. Just another case of the haves vs. the have nots.

... While Bleymaier won’t say specifically which schools have turned him down, he will say that the open date remains – Sept. 3, 2011. The offer stands, the Broncos will go anywhere.

And, lo and behold, guess which major conference school happens to have an open date? How about Harvey Perlman’s Nebraska, the one-time powerhouse which could use all the big attention grabbing games it can get these days?

Don’t hold your breath on that one – chicken or collusion, the result is the same.

Is Nebraska willing to put up or shut up? If they refuse the offer, they should change their name from the Huskers to the Pussies.

Bullshit - how have TCU and Fresno gotten games against BCS opponents home and away for years and all the sudden Boise doesn't? Something isn't right about this. I'm not saying it's easy, but there is a way to get someone besides UC-Davis to play you if other mid-majors can do it for most of the last decade.

It would not surprise me if this was suggested by the PR firm.

Nothing new, either: Fresno State has been living by this mantra for years (although, did they not get Wisconsin to come to CA? Not sure...)

Agreed, Pat Hill's had this offer out for a decade now.

Wisconsin came last year, Illinois and Ole Miss are all slated to play in Fresno in the near future.

Po wittle babies.

-- We had the same problem during the 1970's....in basketball especially and football some. In basketball we won 20+ games for three consecutive years (with 6 or less losses) and none of the ranked basketball teams would play us. NCAA bids were at stake and they did not want to play a good but unranked team for fear of not getting a basketball bid. In short lot to lose and not much to gain. The NCAA basketball situation was quite different then with only 24 or maybe 32 teams selected.

--Hayden Fry had a simliar problem when he was here... There were a lot of teams in major conferneces that would not schedule us... Tennessee did thinking they could defeat us... and they lost..... they cancelled their second games with us because of that and we were picked up by UT .....and then UT only defeated us when Earl Campbell went around right end with about 2 min left.

---What they say at Bosie is likely absolutlely true.... we don't have that problem now... teams love to play us in football now... we look like an automatic win.

---TCU is in the conference with Air Force, Colorado State etc... Boise isn't. Plus they have a long histroy and had once even been in the same conference with UT, Arkansas, A&M. Not the same at all.

Is that why UT, Arkansas and A&M have been rushing to schedule them?

There are plenty of examples of mid-majors finding teams to play them - even with success. Fresno and TCU have been doing this for the good part of the decade and they still find ways to make games work. It seems like Boise is trying to have it both ways, but, thanks to the way Saturday shook out, hopefully we'll see both them and TCU in BCS games.

Do current administrations really look at old SWC history when deciding schedules/making decisions like this? The only way I could understand this is if the scheduling gurus were hanging around at their respective schools for 20+ years, dwelling on the good ol' days.

As a fan, we love to tie in all these story lines between old rivals and foes and it makes for great fodder. But really, are they up there deciding between TCU and Fresno and thinking "Well this one was not in the SWC, so forget them!"? It is probably more about the money, and a priority is given to whatever puts them in better position for titles.

I'll be the first to say I would love to know what is going behind those doors, because I can only speculate at this point.

For the record, having seen Boise live this year against Tulsa, they look very beatable. Tulsa, breaking in a new QB, RB, and linemen, took an early lead on them and eventually lost by 7. Boise could never fully put Tulsa away.

I think TCU, Cincinnati, Texas, Florida, or Alabama woud run roughshod over Boise. Boise is very young - five seniors - and isn't good at finishing. Of all years, this is the year they are fortunate to play in a conference without top competition.

I still think they'll lose one along the line. They just didn't look good in person. And, they've struggled some in other games.

I'd love to see TCU or Cincinnati in a title game with Florida. I don't really think Alabama can beat Florida this year. And, I think Texas is too up and down on offense. I think a Florida-Texas matchup would look identical to the Florida-OU matchup of last year.

Plus, it'd be something of a switch to see an SEC team play someone other than a Big 12 school for a title. It would be more interesting to see Cincy or the Frogs in with the Gators.
