Is it "the best system yet" to decide a football championship? Sure.

Is it the best system that can decide a championship? Hell no.

I don't understand it at all. A playoff system would bring bagajillions of dollars to all of college football. I remember seeing one study that claimed that a 16-team playoff would more than double the revenue of the current bowl system because it would pit the small schools not against the 7th best ACC team but the top ranked teams in the first round.

Tell me what game you are more likely to go to: The New Orleans Bowl playing the 4th best C-USA team, which if we won would get us pretty much zero respect? Or the Armed Forces Bowl, opening round playoff game of the NCAA Championship Series against the Texas Longhorns, which if we won make us the talk of the football world and draw the interest of good players?

Yes, at first those opening round games would be ugly. But after a few years, recruits would know that every D1-A team in the country has a legitimate shot at the crown and parity will improve all of the smaller conferences.

Which is not in the interest of the power conferences. Everyone knows money wins in congress, so anything we see coming out of there is going to be a cluster of the highest order. The best thing would be for a school like Boise to sue the pants off the BCS, then, in about 12 years, after all appeals are exhuasted, we will have a legit playoff system.

I hate the power conferences.

But we don't need that. All we need is for the NCAA to declare that they will finally, for the first time ever, hold a Division I-A football championship. Why do we as fans keep bowing down to the BCS? The NCAA can tell the schools, "Hey, if you don't participate in the NCAA Champipnship tournament, then your school will be ineligible for the championship in all other sports."

It would require a backbone on their part, but what would the conferences do then?

Problem is, like a 2 bit crack whore, the NCAA is hooked on the money provided by the BCS. In what possible way would it benefit the NCAA to take the unknown risk of a National Title Tournament when they can sit back and hit a huge pipe provided by the BCS.

For even more money.

If my plan was implemented, there would be 27 nationally televised games that would generate a ton of money.

12 conference title games would act as automatic qualifying games, and an additional 15 playoff tournament games. The NCAA could offer a television deal that would bring in a hell of a lot more money than the current bowl system. For the most part, people are now only interested in the BCS title game. Yeah there is interest in the other BCS bowls, but beyond that the bowl system is a joke and loses money for most teams.

According to our friend Mark(ArkStFan) who has given us a lot of insight into some of these things NCAA wise, say's that this is exactly the problem. It would make so much money that the athletic director would immediately become the most powerful figure on every campus and that the university presidents will never allow it. Although that's precisely what has occured at Ohio State in my oppinion and that makes sense and may explain why the current system still exists.

The best we can hope for is that there's as much frustration as possible over the whole thing by having several teams still standing undefeated every year after all the bowl games are done.
