 bad move

i don't know why everyone thought so highly of rudy, a lot of the talent that he "groomed" did so while they were on steroids. he never taught the teams to situational hit and that cost the rangers this year and in our playoff runs in the late 90's. with that being said, i hope they can find someone better. if they can do this...they win 10 more games and make the playoffs next year.

It'a about $. Rangers are so strapped for cash they can't afford to keep Rudy. He will land another job as soon as he wants. If it's time for a change just to get a fresh breath of air then I understand , but you can't tell me someone is going to come in here and do a better job.

But , if you think u know hitting more than these 2 guys , then I guess it is a good move.

Michael Young: Rudy is the best hitting coach in the game. End of story.

Marlon Byrd: I have worked with five different hitting coaches and Rudy is hands down the best!!!

Of course the players love him. Kinsler is a 30-30 guy this year. Great individual stats, horrible situational hitting. Players want to get paid. If you hit a lot of homers, you get paid. Plain and simple.

For every Michael Young and Marlon Byrd, there are tens of Ian Kinslers, Chris Davises, Hank Blalocks, and GMG Jrs. out there. Do you really want to trust Justin Smoke to this guy after seeing the regression of Davis and Kinsler?

Rudy can't swing the bat for some of these guys. These are grown men , not all the problems can be put on a coach. You would be surprised how many professional athelets who get paid , don't want to work hard or listen to some old man on the bench.

I think some of the players felt the pressure of the playoff run and didn't know how to handle it

Rangers will not make the playoffs again next year and If I'm wrong I'll take my lumps.

yea, the players love him because he's a good guy and his main technique to hitting is "positive thinking"...that's the only thing i've ever heard anyone say about him..."he teaches us to believe in ourselfs". if that's the case call dr. phil and let him throw soft toss to the guys in the cage. remember hank blalock when he got to the rangers, he wasn't a dead pull hitter like he is now, but with time he became one. he never pulled ian or josh out of their funks this year, and it took the AAA batting coach could do it for davis.

i think this will be the best thing for the young hitters on the team (borbon and andres) the last thing they need to believe is that they are 20 home run guys.

The Rangers are sitting home because they have no pitching...not because they can't hit. The Rangers will get another hitting coach and the "hitters" will say the same things about him....PITCHING...PITCHING....yes, it was better this year, but still not nearly good enough from top to bottom in the starting rotation.

Just like FC Dallas was left sitting at home last year because they didn't have enough guys who were good at kicking?

Did you watch the Rangers this year?

Uh... I think you are remembering 2008. Although the pitching faded in the last 2 weeks, the Rangers ended up eighth in the AL in pitching with a 4.38 ERA, one spot above the Angels, who finished 9th.

Hitting: The Rangers finished 3 from the bottom with a .260 average (the league low was .258) while leading the league in (surpise, surprise) strikeouts with 1253. The next closest was Tampa with 1229, and then Cleveland with 1211, then the Red Sox with 1120. LAA finished at the top of the league with a .285 average, followed closely by the Yanks at .283.

True to the Rudy mentality, the Rangers were 2nd in the league in home runs, with 224. The Yankees hit 244 HRs while striking out 239 fewer times. The Rangers drew 472 walks, third from the bottom of the league, while the Yankees drew 663, second in the league to... Tampa, yes the team closest to the Rangers in strikeouts also leads the league in walks, not almost at the bottom like the little Rangers.

So long, Rudy, burn in... Chicago??

GIT SEM PITCHIN!!!!!

Thank you, it's been too long!

Also, based on Hicks moves with the Stars, will the new hitting coach be Rusty Greer, Odibe McDowell or Mickey Tettleton?

If you're bad talking any move that lands Rusty back with the Rangers I'll virtual punch you in the nads.

Yep, I watched plenty, but could rarely stay awake long enough to see the end as I was bored to tears by all the standing around. You may be on to something there with FC Dallas...too many missed "kicks" for sure last season and it looks like 2009 might just be a repeat...you know, bringing in a college coach to coach a professional team and all that. But, I am surprised that you could even spell FC Dallas! Nice!

Let's see which team wins the US Series...my guess it will be the team whose pitching holds up. Seems that has been the run so far in the playoffs with several series...Cardinals, etc. Pitching left the house just when the playoffs arrived...again! Sure the Rangers had a better effort from the mound this year...but, in case you missed it, the season result was the same as always...no post-season for the great hitting Rangers. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....did you watch???? Just saying....

Did you even read that stats I posted?? This quote leads me to believe that you must have fallen asleep in the 1st inning of every game, if you tuned in at all.

What do you have against kids with autism????? I assume you are referring to the Rangers pitching staff.

And, no I usually made it to the 3rd inning for the boredom set in and I fell asleep. I must not be alone with this...check the TV ratings for the DFW area during the playoffs so far! For a so-called "major" sport, the ratings are pretty bad...and that's being kind. Seems MLB has lost the DFW area...one of the nation's largest TV markets. Gee, and baseball is so very exciting and all that. Hard to figure out.

Just trying to wake Quoner up...come on Tasty...you really should get in on this. I miss your humor...I really do. Come on in...go for it!

I hear Millwood has Asperger's, but no confirmed Autism cases to report.

Greenguybass, have you heard anything?

Good point...where is GreenGuyBass when you need him? Not everyone might agree with him, but he does have a "up close and personal" look at the mighty Rangers. Are you out there in GMG.com land GreenGuyBass?

Too bad for the Rangers. Rudy's a good hitting instructor...but, I'm biased. His daughter went to UNT and I had a few classes with her. We studied together for more than a few tests together. Back then, her dad was still with the Astros. It was always fun to talk with her about baseball and such. Nice gal.

Maybe the next hitting coach will teach something other than the six run homer as his version of situational hitting. Ron Washington's "small ball" and Rudy's philosophies just didn't mesh.

For the record, I'm a fan of small ball. Viva la National League!
