they haven't said anything and he wasn't in there on the kickoff return...

If you are injured while playing, you can get an injury settlement and be released. Normally it is a pretty good deal for the player.... because they can be picked up by another team and still get their money.

Thank goodness for the 3 year guaranteed contract. I'm willing to bet the EE comes back faster than before.

Rick,

I don't think there is such a thing as a guaranteed contract in the NFL, that's why you see highly paid players released all the time so a team can get under the cap.

There sure are completely guaranteed contracts, not all are. And as I recall they can count against your cap for over an extra year after a player leaves. But the contract is still paid out sometimes in a lump sum, sometimes an agreement to go to be a free agent or trade is worked out.

It depends on the contract on how long a portion of the salary will count against the cap. If the talk of how much they like him is true, then he won't be cut, just placed on IR where doesn't count against this year's cap.

Dolphins placed RB/KR Patrick Cobbs on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.

Cobbs, 26, was already not the fastest kickoff returner, so any loss of speed would be detrimental to his future. He is under contract through 2010 for a reasonable $775K, however, so expect the Tony Sparano favorite to return.
