EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount's season-long suspension for punching an opponent could be lifted if he meets certain conditions, coach Chip Kelly said.

"It's not a football decision, it's a human being decision. It's about that individual," Kelly said Friday. "And he's got a lot of things he's got to do."

Blount punched Boise State's Byron Hout in the aftermath of Oregon's 19-8 season-opening loss to the Broncos. The suspension banned him from games, but Blount was allowed to remain on scholarship and practice with the team.

Kelly said he set down academic, behavioral and football-related "ladders" that Blount must achieve for possible reinstatement, but he did not provide specifics. Academics could not be addressed earlier because classes had not started.

Blount signed an agreement outlining the requirements last week.

yup coach it has nothing to do with Oregon having a great shot at taking the PAC-10 Title.

This is so transparent and Oregon should be embarrassed, but it is big time football. Guess their getting Blount ready for the NFL where the players do not have to be accountable for their actions.

The kid should have never been suspended for the whole season in the first place. Three/four games would have sufficed. Hell, I would have punched that crap talking Boise spare as well.

Would you have waited until the Boise spare wasn't looking and had almost turned around to throw the punch, then after you threw your cheap shot, would you then backpedal like a little girl to get out of there as quickly as possible?

He would be gone for the rest of the year if the coach didn't think he had a shot at the PAC 10 title. Not Blount's first problem and won't be his last. Like I said before, hitting the pipe in a dope motel within 10 years.

Let's not forget about his behavior AFTER the punch... getting into it with the crowd, and if that cop really wanted he could have charged Blount with assaulting a police officer.

This guy embarrassed his team, his school, and the sport. He has had problems before. If they lift his suspension, it just sets the bar a little lower for acceptable behavior.

This. I can forgive the punch, that was bad, but it happens. It was his volcanic reaction AFTERWARDS that was so damning. He almost went into the freaking stands like Ron Artest to take on the BSU student body.

Lest we forget that Blount is not a first time offender, also many forget he was the one talking s**t the week leading up to the game then laid an egg.

He had no intentions of going into the stands. That would have required some courage, which this guy doesn't have. He knew that there were plenty of people there to make sure he was pushed back from the stands. Just physical hyperbole.

Remember the old "hold me back, hold me back" from middle school? That's exactly what this thug was doing.

Ummm no - he was about ready to go into the stands. The dude absolutely lost his mind. He wouldn't have fought the cop and his own teammates otherwise. I mean if Artest had someone pull him back, people would've thought he was just making a "show" - but obviously he was for real.

Also, Blount was the "mouth that roared" prior to the game. The crap-talking Boise player was just giving it back to him.

Watch it again. If he wanted to get to the fans, he could have and would have. So lucky that a policeman and about ten of his teammates just happened to be there to hold him back.

Artest wanted to get in the stands and did get in the stands, Hell, I have more respect for him than this poser.

Yet another example of the "special" rules for gifted athletes.....what's new about this? The coach is simply doing what many coaches who have misplaced their ethics and valuse for the sake of winning have been doing for years.....so, what's new and why is this a shock to anyone? It would have been a bigger shock if they actually did hold the kid accountable.

Assuming no parole: 2 years. Whether he serves the full term of his sentence is yet to be seen.

And, you want to equate what Plexico did with what this kid did? Also...my guess, the average "Joe" would receive a much harsher sentence than Plexico due to his "special" status as a gifted athlete. Just saying.......

Actually, I believe that Plaxico got close to the maximum for this crime. The NY DA went after him to prove a point. So yes, he did get special treatment, just not the kind you would expect.
