Now that my knee has quit jerking, I have been thinking about how opponents DC's and OC's will plan for North Texas in all remaining games this season.

Blitz - Blitz - Blitz, seems to be the way to go. Ball St did not blitz very much, Ohio did blitz more, Bama blitzed alot, while the Raiders brought the house on each North Texas offensive play. The Raiders game plan was to take Riley's

play making abilities out of the game, with their contant blitz packages. The oppoents DC's will follow this tactic too.

From watching Troy, Ark St, and FAU in the past, their defensive package always had heavy blitizing anyway so I

would expect even more blitzing from these teams when the NT game comes around.

Hurry up offense. The North Texas defense was flat footed during the 1st half. The Raiders saw the NT defense was slow getting to the line of scrimage. The Raiders took advantage of that. On the 51yd catch and run TD, the NT defense was no where ready for the play. From my view point, it looked as if half the team was out of position

when the Raiders were at the LOS and snapped the ball. I would expect to see the hurry up offense employed against the NT defense throughout the remaining games this season.

Blitz packages can be beat, and the hurry up offense can be handled. Knowing these offensive and defensive schemes will be used against NT, could be a big advantage for NT. Ask Lance Dunbar. His 2 TD runs reminded me

of Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas, bursting through the line of scrimage. I would expect more big plays will

come NT's way, as the opponets follow and copy each others same blitz package and hurry up tactics.

[sarcasm Tag]...what he said, I mean come on the Coaches should have shown the ability to adapt...[/sarcasm Tag] Oh Wait, they did!! [sarcasm Tag]Never Mind, just forget about the 2nd half of the MTSU game and everything fits the grinch! [/sarcasm Tag]

If you think making an adjustment for the second half of a ballgame where the first half was full of a defensive gameplan that teams have been using against us FOR TWO YEARS is acceptable then long live Todd Dodge as coach! If, on the other hand, you think that perhaps the other team blitzing us into submission is nothing new and should have been seen coming then I'd agree completely.

That game was full of coaching mishaps. Want examples?

Example 1: Get to the line on fourth and 1 in the shotgun formation. Take so much time looking to the sideline for a play that you have to call a timeout. Come back from said timeout in an I-formation, which you should have been in to begin with, and run a play action pass that gets blown up.

Example 2: Gain some momentum in the third quarter by scoring two unanswered touchdowns to make it 30-21. Get a defensive stop. Then run a dive...followed by a draw...followed by a weak third down pass play...then punt. Nevermind that throwing to the flats is what got them out of the box and got you down field all third quarter.

Never said there weren't coaching mistakes made just don't agree that the coaches are in over their head and this was demonstrated by coming out in the 2nd half and being productive on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. You can second guess the play calls but I've seen dives and draws hit for huge gains in situations like Saturday, maybe something was seen that they thought was open for a play of this type. It's easy to diss on a failed play from your seat but that's football, this is not baseball where you play percentages and let the chips fall especially when you are trying to mount a comeback of the type UNT needed. If that draw, dive, or play action would have worked where do you think the MO level had gone. I'll answer my own question, Sky High and could have pushed us over the top for a UNT Win. Sadly that was not the case.

That may all be true, but from what I've heard about "the system" that Tony Franklin taught in his seminars, that is one part of his offensive strategy, the so called "Nascar" offense. At least that's something Steve Lineweaver mentioned in one of the Euless Trinity booster club meetings. Honestly, I saw less than one quarter of the Carroll team under Dodge, but for some reason I expected his offense to have more of a "hurry up" look, or to go to that at times.
