Mavs Training Camp Starts Soon

Mavs Roster

Outside my presumed starting five of:

1. Kidd

2. Howard

3. Marion

4. Nowitzki

5. Dampier

Which I think has the potential of being one of the most effective starting line ups in the game assuming everyone stays healthy, we have absolutly nothing. Our bench rotation of 9 at this point include:

6. Terry

7. Gooden

8. Barea

9. Thomas

At this point who do we have to cover the 5 when Damp gets his inevitable 3 fouls in the first quarter? Gooden? If so then who covers for Dirk when he needs to rest? Tim Thomas? Shawne Williams? Kris Humphries? please.... This is were Orlando screwed us, we needed Bass this season, Gortat would have helped too but those ships have sailed. Perhaps I just don't know these new players enough or haven't seen them on the court yet but Thomas is getting old and has always had an attitude problem, I am afraid that Marion will be the same way but hopefully pairing up with Dirk in the front court might reinvigorate his game that he seems to have lost over the last couple years.

We have very little promising youth on this team. I am not buying Quinton Ross yet as anything but a slightly above average defender, perhaps he can keep Kobe from putting up 50 and limit him to only 45. Beaubois is an unknown and at this point there is no faith in the Mavericks ability to draft anyone. The only decent draft pick that I can remember over the past 5-6 years has been Howard.

At this point I am afraid that we are one injury away from a Charlotte Bobcats type of season, the depth just isn't there past player no. 7. Some one give me something positive to look at here I jsut can't find it.

As soon as the season tips off and I see Damp and Howard both back in a Maverick's uniform..... very good chance my brains are on the wall.

Anyone think Marion might be willing to come off the bench? Start Ross at the 2, keep Josh at the 3...at least in the starting line-up. That would help the bench out considerably, and more than likely your game-finishing 5 is going to be Kidd, Jet, Josh, Marion and Dirk baring anyone else having a career night.

Unless Marion has changed his tune over the years, there is not a chance his ego can handle coming off the bench. He wanted out of a highly talented team in PHX, because (partly) because he wasn't getting the respect he thought he deserved. He wasn't being showcased and making the all star games.

I like your train of thought though.

I just read that Dirk is 10lbs lighter this year, in anticipation of a running offense tempo.

Then I saw this beauty and it made me miss living in Dallas.

I do too, but I am not sold on Quinton Ross, with him and Kidd on the floor you have very little scoring threat from you back court and the only players on the floor at that point that you concern yourself with is Dirk and Howard. So for the first 5 minutes of the game we would have very little scoring options and a moderate defensive improvement in the back court to show for it.

That and I don't think that the Matrix has any desire to come off the bench just yet.
