Let's Give It Up....

No personal attacks are intended in this topic.....

In 2001, most of the UNT football faithful were unified.... let's fire the Coach and start over. I know most of you will not admit it....but, I hope you enjoyed the 4 New Orleands Bowls that followed.

I wasn't surprized that it all started again after the Alabama game and continued with our loss to Middle Tenn. Start over again.... Remove Riley from Quarterback.

I am older than many of you, and with that, I have lived, like each of you, through the good and bad at the University of North Texas.....excet I have been around a little longer. And, again, I ask you to step back

and support the team. With today's Sunbelt, I am not predicting four years of perfect conference wins. But, in all honestly, to many of the Mean Green faithful, that wasn't enough to satisfy us either. Most Mean

Green fans supported the Coaching change! "A new day in UNT football", most proclaimed.

However, this program requires patience, stability, and we must possess the inner strengt to continue to support the Coaches and players. Those that know me....and many of you do, understand it is hard for me

too. But, a Head Coach who is still making changes adjusting to Major College Football, a red-shirt quarterback, and the rest of our team---need more time. You have a new football stadium coming! To start anew,

would delay what WE ALL desire....another SunBelt Conference championship. It will come! And, as a few years ago, it will be very, very sweet! It's easy to be a fan of many college football programs. It is not

easy being a Mean Green fan! However, when it all clicks, and it will, it sure is a lot more fun!

Again, I am NOT challenging anyone or telling you not to share your thoughts. It is the GoMeanGreen way! Just sharing my thoughts....and my hopes for Mean Green football.

As Rev Run says, "Teamwork makes DREAMS work"!

I Believe!

You know at the beginning of the season, I wanted a coaching change, so bad because I wanted to see what was out there for us.

But you know what, after the Ball State game, I saw major changes in Defense and Offense and especially the Special Teams.

We have two major drawbacks here at our football program, Our conference and our budget, and for a short time, stadium

I can't guarantee we will get better with a new coach, cause we cant afford one, we dont play exciting well known teams and we currently play in a Grade C High School Football Stadium

It all starts with the right recruits and then you will see results. Thats the bottom line.... Anyone with knowledge of the game can coach. Look at Barry Switzer and the talent he had to go to the Super Bowl and actually win. Talent.

For now, im behind Coach Dodge and 100% behind our team and hopefully things will pick up. Also in all reality, Coach Dodge will be here this season and next season, because his security blanket is Riley Dodge, the starting QB who he hopes matures with the team

We lost the Ohio and MTSU because of turnovers, nothing else, we beat ourselves out of a win, lets just face it.

I agree with everything except your first sentence. People need to realize a few things about this team.

1. They've got to learn how to win.

2. We are still extremely young with a redshirt freshman leading the offense, but a RS freshman that is probably our highest rated recruit in the last 30 years.

3. Dodge has recruited better overall talent than any coach in years and this talent is still young. I personally subtract the 2007 class from his "recruiting ranking" because he wasn't give much time to throw this class together.

4. Being young leads to mistakes that experience will help correct. Riley will be fine at QB, in fact, I would rather have him back there than anyone else. He's a coach's kid, knows the system as well as anyone and is a proven winner.

Dodge will be around because everyone should be able the improvements in this team from last year and the talent he is recruiting. I still think a .500 finish is achievable and will set us up nicely for 2010.

I remember this well....and I also remember that it wasn't until RV made it clear DD wouldn't have a job if he didn't start winning...his time was up.....it is amazing how things all of a sudden turned around...it made me wonder about DD effort previously.

anyway, i was one calling for a rope also and I guess i was wrong....I just

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I went to UNT for 2 semesters in 2001 (the beginning of the good roll of bowl games).

I transferred back to Houston in 2002 (after a 0-11 season) and graduated from UH in 2005.

We (UH) weren't exactly a bowl team at that time but look where they are now. #12 ranking and looking to run the table.

Everyone knows that football teams go through "cycles". Keep your heads up, tailgate and go to the whole game, and wear your green and white proudly.

GO MEAN GREEN! GO COOGS!

WE ARE A YOUNG TEAM!!!

We only have 14 Seniors! Our QB is a redshirt Freshman!

Our main problems have been youthful mistakes. We are turning over the ball at an alarming rate. The other major thing is we are not finishing drives. We fumble in the redzone, throw pics in the endzone, and cannot kick a FG to save our life! Think of how many points we left on the board against Ohio! THIS WILL COME WITH EXPERIENCE.

It is a big jump from HS to FBS College! In HS, many of these players are one of the best players on their team. In College, there are lots of guys better than you! You have to take your lumps and learn from it. Riley will learn to hold on to the ball, not throw picks, penalties will subside, and our team will get better.

Go ahead and write off this season. We will be competitive in conference, but we are not going to win the Sunbelt. If you thought we were, PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN!

In 2-3 years we will be ruling the Sunbelt! Then everyone here can say they were behind this team through thick and thin!

Go Green!

I think this is a good point and worth further consideration.

No disrespect, so let me start by saying that I hope you'll keep posting and sharing your thoughts and opinions on the team.

Three years ago, many of the folks here were predicting that this year, Year 3 of the Dodge era, we'd be a Sun Belt powerhouse again and this would be the year we really started threatening our big time OOC opponents.

Our previous coach took until his fourth season (3rd year of recruits, because he was hired after national signing day and barely in time for spring practice in his first season) to win us a Sun Belt championship. RV had one foot on his ass pushing him out the door at the point when he started the 26 game conference winning streak... And this was a guy who'd beaten Texas Tech, Boise State (twice), and Nevada by the time his third season was over.

At the time, and up to the day he was finally fired... Many of those same folks here said that we never should have kept him, that settling for those SBC championships was the absolute in low expectations and settling for worthless success.

Now, the mantra is that we're on the cusp of contending for the Sun Belt title again, next year, maybe. Which used to be worthless, until the new guy came in and managed 1 conference win in his first 15 opportunities.

Now, here we are, and we're almost certainly just one conference loss away from Waiting Until Next Year to hit that once unacceptable benchmark again.

Part of the reason we only have 14 seniors is because of the way this coach chose to handle and treat the players he inherited. The reason we have a Redshirt Freshman QB is because our coach bred and raised him, then brought him here to run the system. We can excuse all we want about having a "young team", but many of the original Dodge recruits (those who haven't already jumped ship) will be out of eligibility after next season.

When we brought in this coach, the demands that led to his opportunity were such that this sort of performance would never have been acceptable. Now, we're at a point where Dodge has to win half the games left this season just to match the number of wins our previous coach had after 3 seasons... A win total that left him on the verge of termination.

I'm not writing things off yet. I think we can get to .500 this year. The talent is there and most of the coaches are proven commodities.

But at this point... Next Year shouldn't be a guarantee for anyone. After three seasons, Next Year needs to be EARNED.

Bottomline, we spotted one of the best teams in our conference 10 points in the first 3 mins of the game...Great teams have a hard time overcoming that...

There is a stark and vast difference between last year and this year, and the mistakes we see are fixable, as opposed to a complete lack of effort or pride.

We outplayed MTSU in the second half, but starting from a 30-7 halftime deficit is a little hard to overcome...

Stay positive, stay enthused, stay committed as fans. Bring your friends, I brought two last week, and they'll be back to tailgate every game from now on...

I truly believe we are on the right track, and as a good friend of mine pointed out....The Cowboys were 1-15 3 years before their first Super Bowl..

It is not an easy burdern to bear sometimes being a UNT fan, but it is absolutely worth it...

I agree. If Dodge can't win five games this year, I don't see why he deserves any more time. He's been here too long to blame Dickey.
