This is not directly related to football, but does have major indirect significance for both the university and the football program.

This morning's Houston Chronicle compared the seven state universities bucking for inclusion in Tier One status. Here are their rankings on the various categories.

Enrollment: 1. UH-37.006; 2 UNT-36.206; 3.Texas Tech-30.000; 4. UTSA-29.133; 5. UTA-28.084; 6. UTEP-21,001; 7. UTD-14,944

SAT scores (2008 freshmen enrollees); 1. UTD-1,248; 2. Tech-1,113; 3. UNT-1,098; 4. UTA-1.065; 5. UH-1,061; 6. UTSA-996; 7. UTEP-982

Ph.D's awarded-1. UH-262; 2. UNT-212; 3. Tech-184; 4. UTA-153; 5. UTD-127; 6. UTEP-59; 7. UTSA-49

Here are the categories where we do not rank well and need to improve:
