So I work with a bunch of Tech alumni who...of course love to act like Tech is the greatest University hands down in everything.

The argument now is that Tech academically is a better institution than UNT. I refuse to believe that a school (Tech) that has lower admission standards, been put on accreditation probabtion, and has the highest freshmen drop out rates in Texas is better academically than UNT.

Am I right to say, "at best UNT and a Tech degree is pretty even."

Little help so I can put these Red Raider alumni in their place.....what else does UNT have on Tech???

Thanks!

The first thing you need to ask your Tech co-workers if they just attended the school or actually graduated from there. Im pretty sure when I graduated from UNT, my row had about 15 die-hard Tech fans....

Secondly, depending on what happens Saturday night, just Rub the Texas game in their face and move on.

I think Tech is a fine school. I can't knock them. I just didn't want to go there. I have only known one person in my engineering career who graduated from Tech, and he was a very smart dude. He would have excelled at any school. I have known plenty of dumb people who went to Tech.. so who knows.

These discussions are like pissing in the wind. I only do it when I really have to, or am too drunk to know better. I don't fit either of those categories right now.

The average entering freshman SAT score is at an all-time high of 1131 at Tech

Latest from UNT I could find is from 2001 and it was at 1093 for incoming freshman, and I'm sure it has risen since then. There's one thing off the top of my head, I'm sure there's others, this school is not academically superior by any means, however, they have a lot more homers and notoriety than North Texas.

Fact: UNT has over 36,000 students and Tech student population is declining. It is a big worry for Tech, as they know they are slipping. They are institutionally trying to stop the trend.
