I believe that we can beat any team that we play. I think that teams that have that attitude - well, they win. This was a heartbreaking loss - can't believe that 17K showed up in the terrible weather to tailgate and watch the game. I think that we can beat Alabma - is that crazy? ULM beat them. FIU gave them a hell of a game for the first half last night. Why can't we beat them?

They will be waiting with their ears pinned back. I believe in the Mean Green but athletically Bama is going to overwhelm us. The key is to stay healthy and go 2-2 in September. I want to go bowling dang it! That is why last night hurt, but we will be on the cusp of bowl eligibilty in November. Bama is a different animal - if we were headed to Tuscon or Ames I would say hey, strut with that swagger into their house - Bama is tired of playing non-bcs teams close. I don't think we get Troy crushed, but not sure if we can win. Never say never - keep the faith!

Steve for us to beat Alabama at this point in our team's development North Texas would have to have one of those magic days where Alabama can't do anything right and we can't do anything wrong and all luck falls on our shoulders. Something like 50-1 odds for us to win would be my guess, but on any given day you never know. I figure you still have some of my tequila in you, did you find the missing lady?

No. The defense should keep us in for a while, but I have little hope next week of the offense moving the ball without Riley.

When we beat Tennessee in 1975.......we were down to our 3rd string quarterback. Glen "Joe Willie" Ray started that game and lead NT to the victory.

So anything's possible. And btw....I was so thrilled that Nathan ended up with some success yesterday. Even though he threw that pick....he and the offense came back to put points on the board....and give us a chance to win.

Bama-54

UNT-14

Still at least a year away from competing in these type of games. For us to win, Alabama would have to turn the ball over 5 or six times, with us taking advantage of the turnovers. Tune showed some spunk coming back from the pick last night, but he is not very mobile and will be a sitting target for the Alabama d line. If we are able to run the ball at all, the score could be closer, but that is a tall order against Alabama.

Throw at Royce all day and we may just get those turnovers.

The way we win is if they take us lightly. I was hoping for them to blow out FIU so that way they think to themselves: " We'll kill em like we killed FIU last week"

As it is, they have Arkansas after us. Not much of a look ahead game. They might be excited for conference play but not as much as if they were playing Florida or something.

Anything is possible, however unlikely.

I'm with you, and mostly for the "taking us lightly" possibility you mentioned. If we were 2-0 instead of 1-1, it would be harder to look past us. Also, I like Tune. I think he's a guy with good character and skills. Somewhere I read about him being able to "hit the receiver in stride" well. I think that could work well with our current bunch of receivers. I kind of wonder if some of the drops were because of receivers not being used to his delivery; maybe a week of practice and they'll get accustomed to it. Also, I wonder if this weather system that's hung around here too long may be in Alabama by next weekend. To me, that kind of weather makes things more unpredictable; I like unpredictable when we're big underdogs.

Back to the original question - can we beat Alabama. Yes, but only if every possible break goes our way. We will need some luck.

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity" - Seneca, a Roman philosopher and dramatist. (This quote is often misattributed to Darrel Royal. Darrel Royal was well read and sometimes quoted other people! That doesn't make him any less intelligent, if anything it makes him more!)

Was Seneca the source for such sayings attributed to Royal as "Old Ugly is better than old nothing", and "A confused team can't play aggressively"?

If the team goes into the game thinking win, anything is possible. A win is not probable, but attitude can sometimes make strange things happen. Remember Tennessee in '75. That's why they play the game.

Tell me Kelvin Jackson and John Weber's injury status, first.

With both of those guys in on the dline, depth is not an issue....but Alabama is more talented across the board. Royce is going to have his hands full with Julio Jones.

If we can limit our turnovers and run some clock, something close to the UT score in 2002 is definitely a possibility. For us to pull a win?....well, our young team will have to do something it hasn't done yet this season---capitalize on every scoring opportunity we get.

I can't believe more people aren't worried about K. Jackson at this point....he looked to be injured far worse than Riley was---and Jackson looks to be our most consistently disruptive dlineman. Any updates on this guy?

Of course UNT can beat Alabama...that's why you play the game. Thanks to SUMG for reminding me that "Joe Willy" was our QB when we beat Tennessee. After that Tennessee win, I have believed that UNT could be anyone on any given day. Now, what are the odds??? Well, much better than the last two years, but still fairly "long". Nathan will get the vast majority of work this week at practice and will be much better prepared to enter the game as #1 should that be the case. I have confidence in Nathan's ability to get the job done for however long he is called upon to do so. And, I for one, are even more happy now that Nathan agreed to stay at UNT and play.

Now, will UNT beat "Bama? I don't bet on these things and I am glad I don't. I'll just keep the faith stir up some more Green Kool-Aid and wish it so.

GO MEAN GREEN!

Man, it was fun at the Ohio game...I was very proud of the crowd...including the student turnout and those that braved the rain to tailgate. The fans made the absolute best out of a messy game day. To all who made the game... :clapping:
