"sit Down?!?!?!?"

BIG DAWG

Recommended Posts

I am not posting this to debate whether or not people should sit our stand in the stands, but I am writing this to tell everyone what I was told by one of the event staff.

Me and my group of about 6 were told by a member of the event staff, "You guys need to sit down during the game unless NT scores a touchdown or makes a big play."

It isn't like we stand the entire game or anything...we were standing up after the first 3 and out, as we were about to run our first offense play. I asked him if we he was serious, and he said that we were allowed to stand and cheer if there was a touchdown, but any other time during the game they would prefer we stay seated.

Like I said, I don't expect everyone to stand the entire game, but I also see it as your individual choice...if I want to stand I think I should be able to.

We stood anyway, just found the comment amusing

Wow tell them to screw off, there is no rule that says you have to sit or you can only stand on scores.

This is similar to the two ladies that got kicked out of the Rangers game for standing. They were told to sit. They didn't. They were told to sit. They didn't. They were pulled into the breezeway and told it was against the Ballpark's policies. You can only stand on big plays. They were escorted out.

For the record, I think CSC is miserable. Every year I can expect to fight the same fights. Yes, parking nazis, I have two passes. I want to use one for one of my canopies. Every year, same conversation.

I had one of those conversations yesterday with the Parking Nazis at 12:15, then they made nice and were even helpful the rest of the day.

Not sure why some say sit down and others don't. I pretty much stood on the steps the whole game, but my usher was only worried about keeping the breezeway clear. I guess if you block the view of the usher they feel they have the right to tell you to sit down???

They are a joke. I think they have been upgraded (or downgraded) from the parking nazis, staduim, nazis, etc, to the yellow nazis. I pulled in at 11am, with hardly a car in the lot, and was told to follow the ushers. I stated that I have someone im tailgating with in the lot. She stated, "You still have to follow the ushers." I chuckled "Ok." and parked. One of the yellow nazis in the staduim entrance division allowed a couple of band members in, and stopped two ladies who were obvios dancers, and turned them away. Pair that with the tortilla Nazi, and the seating Nazis from this year, and a couple of years ago, and you wonder how they stay in business. The sad thing is that I have talked to their corporate boss a couple of years ago and he was appalled when I informed him of the things that were going on. He holds them to a high standard and wants to know when they are out of line. If you guys want to start documenting their power hunger, let me know and I will contact him again.

What the joke here is the lack of coordination between the Athletic Dept. and the parking nazis. It is the same problem. I thought if you got there early, and 11 is early, then you could park where you wanted within reason. I thought the strict enforcement started 4 hours before kickoff. It is also the same argument (just as John Denver says) with the parking passes. The blue lot is for donors, yet they are treated like dirt. The public lot seems to do whatever they want. It just should not be overblown like it is, and I believe the problem is more of our athletic department/facilities management communication. These guys are just doing what they are told. They just do not show up and make the rules, somebody at UNT is the one making and communicating it.

Right; they're just the hired help, doing what they're told. When I tried to move from where they had originally told me to park, they let me know they had already gotten in trouble for letting folks park just anyplace. This was in the Orange lot, about noon, so I could understand what they were doing; filling the lot starting at the far end. They did let me move to a better spot within those parameters (so I could have the end of my van pointed to where I would be setting up my tent).

True, they do not make up the rules, but many of them do overblow instances, thus turning them into situations. Many of them do have a power trip, and do not seem to be able to think for themselves. For instance, a black truck parked in the space in front of us. The usher walked up to them as they were exiting, and had them move...TO THE OTHER SPACE ACROSS THE AILSE. Was it really that critical?

Since I'm often the first the complain, I should be quick to compliment. I was one of the $1000 Mean Green Club donors who got no parking passes. I admit had no even open the envelope marked as tickets since I'd been busy. Jon Burkett called me and asked about the passes. When I figured out I didn't get mine he suggested coming up early to get one. I'm in the middle of getting an Executive MBA from Baylor and have classes till 6:30 on Friday and 5 on Saturdays- UNT doesn't offer one and don't get me started on that. Jon managed to arrange with the guy at the gate to have a list of the folks who didn't get passes. I pulled up expecting a problem was instead was admitted with a smile from the guy.

They are not all Nazis, at least no all the time. Sometimes they are people doing their job in the rain.

Sorry folks, UNT is not Texas A&M...and thank goodness for that...I have no problem if folks want to stand at certain times during the game...but, there is a thing called courtesy...you might think about those around you at times when you want to stand the entire game. Sight lines are important to all who purchase game tickets and actually show up for games. If you are so self-centered that you think it is your right to block everyone else's view during the entire (or majority) of a game, why not buy your tickets in a location where you will not interfere with other's enjoyment of the game? Just saying... It seems to be that the "me me" attitude prevails so much these days, that people don't even think about how their actions might just effect others...too bad.

I stood a good part of the game, but was able to move a bit to give those near me good sight lines when they did not feel the need to stand as often as I did....it's hard, I understand that during the excitement of a game, and I know there are folks who think it is 100% OK to block everyone else's view...you know...the attitude is...well, they can stand too....but, just think about it a bit. I happen to know folks who attend the games who are a bit "older" than some and have a bit of a hard time standing. Those that want to stand and see no problem with blocking other's view, might think about buying tickets on the student side.

Again, I understand...I stand a good bit too, but I do think one needs to consider those Mean Green fans who might not share the passion for standing or who might just want to enjoy the game sitting....I, for one, am also happy they banned umbrellas...it's no fun to sit behind an umbrella...no view of the game and the rain dripping off their umbrella onto you...at least the rules took care of those who were so very inconsiderate of those around them in this case....

Lot's of open space at Saturday's game to move up and out of others way if one wanted to stand the entire game.....might want to consider that.

This goes both ways. If you are going to get pissed at someone standing up in front of you, or if you are "older" then buy a better seat. My family and I buy crappy seats and stand for any part of the game that is really exciting. Plus, my young ones like to stand (probably not a problem). We stand up and cheer everytime the fight song comes on....you know....let's give a cheer for U of NT... (kind of hard to do that sitting). Every time, some yahoo tells us to sit. Geez. It's a ball game, not a funeral. If someone stands in front of me and my little ones, I put the kids on my shoulder and stand too. Its a ball game, stand and cheer if you want. If not, buy front row seats. Of course, a little tolerance on the part of both parties is needed (tragedy of the commons kind of thing).

If you were meant to stand up the entire game then why have seats at all. If you are "older" then buy a better seat.

You are kidding right. I already buy a better seat. I like to stand up sometimes too. I stand up for the kick off. I stand up

for 3rd down plays. I stand up in crucial situations. I still stand up to pee. I also like to sit down sometimes too. To suggest that it is ok for someone

to stand and block some other paying patrons view and if they don't like it they should move is rediculous. There are certainly alternatives

for those that like to stand the whole game. Stand with the students, or as suggested buy crappy seats. But don't impose your will on others

just because you can.

For those of you that stand the ENTIRE game. SIT YOUR ASS DOWN EVERY ONCE IN WHILE.

Just for fun...

If you brought your Mom and/or Dad to the game, and their seats were directly behind your seats, would you stand the entire game. If they complained, would you ask them to move to some crappy seats ?

If you brought your new girlfriend to the game, and the only seat available was behind you, would you stand for the entire game ? Would you ask her to move somewhere else ?

I stand for much of the game myself. And when Tim Crouch says. "THIIIIIRRRRDDDDD DOWN...." I stand up. Isn't that what we're supposed to do ? "That's good for another Mean Green 'First Down.'" Can that even be done sitting ?

It seems to me, it's kinda a seat-of-the-pants thing. We stand on big plays. But every play could be a big play. So when shuld we sit ? Or stand ?

Same ole macho bs. The problem is once someone decides to stand most of the game, he has effectively made the decision for whoever sits behind them. No matter, if they are old, infirm, or just short and find it difficult to look over someone's head or just prefer to enjoy the game from a sitting position. I'm am 6'3 and would never stand up for most of the game if I have a choice. I think it is just plain rude. Note, I am not stating that fans should stay glued to their seats, there are definitely times to stand. However, I don't understand the need to constantly stand for 3 hours and make a sport event some kind of marathon. I had the misfortune to be behind standers Saturday, and that certainly enhanced the game. Not only got to get rained on but got to stand for most of the game. Luckily I guess, my wife didn't attend or there would have some been a stand up confrontation. I stood rather than have some kind of altercation, but that not going to happen if I have others that can't see like children or my wife who is not going to stand to watch an entire football game. I suppose that means I am not a worthy fan in some's very myopic views, but so be it. I hope all you macho guys that espouse standing as a natural right of the real fan, never get old or injured or just tired enough to prefer sitting.

On a positive not, I guess RV could make the new stadium an all standing venue and up the capacity substantially.

for the record I was with Big Dawg....we were standing for the kickoff and the first third down stop....that was when we were told to sit down.....by no means was this a "whole" game machismo thing....it was kickoff and third down......the whole point I think of this was that more than a 1/3 of the section over from us was standing and not a word was said....since it was the first minute of the game I doubt anyone had complained....

i think we just had an overzealous staffer who wanted to "feel the power" and show the others he controlled section B..

no big deal

I think you should expect to stand for most of any college game, except maybe during timeouts, TV timeouts, long long reviews, and a couple of other things. I know the more I stand the better that game is. If I am on my butt most of the game we either gave up in the 1st or we are blowing the other team out of the water and just burning the clock down. Saturday night I bet I sat for maybe half the time or more I was in the stands. Sometimes I stand because people stand in front of me, and people are standing in front of them like dominoes. To me it is spirit and you just can't ask spirit to sit down. If I were to bring my parents well maybe my grandparents because I think I would make my parents stand. I would buy my grandparents seats that are not blocked by standing. If you are that old and can't get seats that don't block your vision, just expect it.

This is not a movie theater. More like a pool full of kiddos you can count on being splashed, like it or not.
