According to Channel 8 ...Denton has received .16 inches of rain in the last 48 hours. Decatur has received .03 inches.

Not saying today won't be a gullywasher...it might. But just because one part of the vast D-FW viewing area is being flooded....doesn't mean that Denton will be.

We've had nearly 2 inches of rain so far in west Parker County. Watched a fantastic overtime win by the Kangaroos last night over Aledo in a monsoon in town last night with kids in tow. What a way to break in the new stadium there.

Rain or shine, the Mean Green Nation will be there.

I have a question about Texas that really, truly isn't meant to be snarky. I've noticed a persistent fear of lightning out here. Is there good reason for it? Do large numbers of Texans get struck down every year?

Texas ranked 2nd in lightning deaths from 1990-2003. However, Texas ranked 29th in lightning deaths per million people during the same time frame.

See here: http://www.lightningsafety.com/nlsi_lls/fatalities_us.html

I think it has more to do with the fact that it doesn't rain very often around here, but when it does, it's usually a hard rain with considerable cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. It's difficult for us to comprehend rain without lighting in September.

Anyone know if Voertman's has NT poncho's ?

I'm almost positive I've seen ponchos there before and I bet they have them now. It's not showing any on the website but they probably still carry them.

There's this wonderful tool called the telephone. You may have heard of it. I just put it to use to engage in long distance communication with Voertmann's. They do indeed carry UNT ponchos.

One of my best friends growing up was struck ten feet away from me. We were golfing when the storm blew in and decided to wait the lightning out in the clubhouse. Dead in the middle of the fairway his cart gets struck. I wouldn't consider myself afraid of lightning, but it is not to be screwed with.

Some of you other guys might not be afraid of lightning but old Huff darned sure is. If I see it, I am out of there and will listen to the game on the radio on the way back home.

I was just there 2 hours ago and they still had quite a few of them. If you're looking for a large umbrealla, you'll be out of luck @ Voertman's...had to get mine @ the bookstore on campus.

As soon as I read this post I grabbed my keys and went to Voertmann's.

When I asked the girl if they had ponchos, she said "Yes, but all we have are the ones that say 'North Texas' on them."

I blinked at her twice and said "That's fine."

On my way back, I drove by the stadium. Empty parking lot around 2:00pm. Hope most everyone is like me today and plan on showing up by kickoff. We couldn't tailgate today anyways as we are heading on vacation tomorrow - had to get the dog to the vet and the kennel and then do last minute shopping.

Keep in mind that they won't let you in with an umbrella (big or otherwise). Ponchos will have to do.
