Victory Over Bsu = Opportunity For Unt

There is a certain amount of hype building up with UNT's opening game against Ball State, nationally, regionally, and down to the SE Texas level. Due to several SE Texas connections, the game is getting good publicity down here. The UNT connections? Todd Dodge(Thomas Jefferson HS Port Arthur), Riley Dodge, Micah Mosley, and Graduate Assistants Kevin Barbay (Nederland HS) and Brian Morgan (Thomas Jefferson HS Port Arthur). Here is what Bob West says:

"Nederland fans might want to check out ESPNU’s national telecast of North Texas’ opener at Ball State Thursday night. Bulldog ex Micah Mosley (No. 32) will get considerable playing time, according to Mean Green head coach Todd Dodge. Mosley, who started as a freshman but missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, is currently No. 3 on the running back depth chart. He plays on most of the special teams and lines up wide in the team’s five receiver package. “I expect him to get six to eight touches a game,” Dodge says of Mosley. “Missing last year set him back some, but he’s worked hard, has a great attitude and is so smart he rarely makes a mistake.” . . . North Texas’ Southeast Texas connection, by the way, extends beyond Dodge, the former TJ All-America QB, and Nederland’s Mosley. Dodge’s graduate assistants are former Nederland QB Kevin Barbay and former TJ kicker and Memorial assistant Brian Morgan . . . That North Texas opener at Ball State, which went 12-1 last year, marks the starting QB debut of Dodge’s son Riley, a redshirt freshman. Riley, of course, led Southlake Carroll to two 5A state championships, committed to Texas, then opted to play for his dad at UNT. There’s been considerable national publicity around the two in the past week, including a feature story in USA Today. Expect ESPNU to revive footage of the celebrated play in the 2006 state championship game in which Riley vomited seconds before taking a snap, then promptly through a touchdown pass."

No doubt SE Texas fans will be watching this game and a win would help the SE Texas recruiting pipeline to UNT. Many top FBS players come from our little corner of the state.

A win over Ball State could do so much for the Mean Green.

First win over a non conference foe since defeating Baylor.

A win over a team highly ranked last year.

Recruiting fodder over an SMU team that may not do much better than UNT did in Dodge's second year and

TCU who sooms to be stricken with the illness/injury bug this year.

Great crowd for the first home game this year (Ohio supposedly an improved MAC team this year)

Confidence builder for the team in themsdelves and their coaches.

Sounds like an interesting concept, a lot rideing on one game.

I am fairly sure we beat SMU in 06
