Are you suggesting some people have been conditioned or misled to believe marijuana is worse than alcohol consumption, or visa versa? :blink:B)

You, sir, are entering a world of pain. A world of pain.

Yes, and that the prohibition of marijuana was based on racism and xenophobia.

OK, just realize that people will now be smoking marihuana outside your favorite restaurant, in the parking lot of North Texas games, and everywhere else you take your kids where smoking is allowed. How many are prepared to have a discusion with their 5 year old about drug use? How many are prepared for 2nd hand smoke issues and your small children once you legalize marihuana?

Like stated before, huge amount of tax dollars are not being spent to pursue the average marihuana user. If a cop runs into someone with a little pot, he has the option to either arrest the pothead or write him ticket. Many times, the arrest leads to the discovery of other, stronger drugs.

Legalizing methamphetamine is just plain stupid (not that anyone on here advocated that). Do that, and watch crime go up about 300%.

I got news for you, a form of meth is currently available with a prescription over the counter and a bunch of our kids w/ADHD are already taking it!! It's called adderral!! I am not saying we should legalize meth BTW. My point is these prescription drugs are similar to many of the substances that are costing us billions of dollars to police.

Really, what's the difference?

Let see, now you will have to worry about both, you will have to worry about your kid getting high while ingesting 2nd hand smoke of the tailgating group next to yours. It's just one more thing that, if legalized, will make parenting just a bit harder, society just a bit more morally looser, add just a bit more to the intoxicated of our society.

And as I stated in an earlier post, alcohol is a drug, and should be illegal, but has become too accepted by society to do so. Funny, I've posted that several times, along with the effects of alcohol, yet no one really challenges that. Maybe we just don't want to hear it so we can all go have a beer?

I agree that meth use is very dangerous and connected with other crimes; however, the most successful anti-meth campaign I've heard about is not law enforcement based. Free market conservatives should love this one; it's based on consumer marketing:

I have heard, and don't doubt, that the same thing is going on now with meth users; the criminal justice system doesn't really want them in jail if it can be avoided, because they don't want to be responsible for their dental care.

.....because they usually don't have any teeth to care for. And don't worry about the Criminal Justice system not having to be burdened with those who actually survive, the Emergency Response system is being run ragged plenty to make up for it. It seems that every Halfway house and MRHA home in my neighborhood is chocked full of those with a history of use of meth.

Maybe someone here knows the answer, but what is the cost of paying for fighting drugs vs paying for their aftermath on society each year? Every time my truck goes out the door for someone whose seeing pink elephants again(nicest way I can put it) is a hit to the tax payer of about $500.

Argentina rules on marijuana use

The supreme court in Argentina has ruled that it is unconstitutional to punish people for using marijuana for personal consumption.
The Argentine court ruled that: "Each adult is free to make lifestyle decisions without the intervention of the state."

Supreme Court President Ricardo Lorenzetti said private behaviour was legal, "as long as it doesn't constitute clear danger".

"The state cannot establish morality," he said.

"There will be an increase in the drug trade and the people that fall into addiction will not, unfortunately, access treatment," Claudio Izaguirre, director of the Argentine Anti-drugs Association told Reuters.
