"If you want to do a story on college football that will absolutely jump out at people, do one on what schools are paying these so-called - I don't like the word 'mid-major' ... these other I-A teams. You need a million-dollar gate to play them. Do you know how tough that is?"

My heart bleeds. Maybe if the Big 6 weren't so resistant to more revenue sharing among all of the conferences, us mid-majors wouldn't have to charge as much.

If they want to remain a Big 6 conference they have one choice. Notre Dame, already a member in the other sports, must be bribed to become a full member. That may not solve their OOC problem but it would balance their conference schedule while adding prestige to the conference. The rest of the members may have to make concessions to ND that they don't want to make (such as allowing them a separate TV contract) but they're flirting with disaster if they don't.

Joe Pa is pitching a fit for the Big 10/11 to take a Big East team (Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt) to become their 12th member. Eventually, he may get his wish. If Notre Dame can be persuaded to add football to their affiliation, it will save the conference because if one of those three should leave an East Carolina, Memphis, or the like can be plugged in with no loss of status.

Well, it wouldn't cost them a penny if they weren't cowards and would play home-and-home series.
