How Smu Is Going To Try And Sell Out Their Opener

SUMG

One of June Jones' buddies must have shipped him some Maui Wowee if he actually believes SMU will fill the stadium against ANYONE, especially when they aren't receiving "Purchased" tickets from someone.

So, I guess since the AD cannot sell the tickets, they will give them to high profile sports members to sell tickets. I guess SMU is going to start having the executive suit in Section 201 Row 30 Seats 1 and 2.

Nope I will not go to an SMU game, but if I can buy a ticket from Roger count me in, what a joke.

You have to give them credit for at least making an effort, it's going to be tough though, with OU vs BYU the same night in Jerry World. We criticize at the drop of a hat, but what are WE doing about OUR opening game?

After all the smoke and BS I was told last year, my group went from 20-24 season tickets to maybe 7 at best this year. Lots of luck Mandy, talk about a clueless person. We may buy our tickets tomorrow.

Heck some folks, including some on this board, critize NT at the drop of a hat.

North Texas used this same gimmick to try and sell out the Baylor game the first time they played here. George Dunham was one of those picked to sell 100 tickets and as I remember he got Mark Cuban to buy the majority of his allotment. The Hardline did a pre game remote from the 'Eagle Dome' tent on the practice fields and most of those tickets were there on a table for anybody to take.

Like it or not, they are getting good publicity for it. Most didn't like the "Pony Up" campaign (myself included) but it had everyone talking about it and that boosted the awareness of SMU football in Dallas last year. SMU is having a pretty decent 2010 recruiting class and they were actually competitive in many of their games last year. We love to hate SMU but don't blink or they'll be what we claim we want to be....the team of DFW.

I may actually go to this game...for the sole purpose of taking pictures and sending them to the DMN and FWST after SMU announces their "sellout"

LOL, that, seriously, sounds like a great plan!

I just read in the article that Ralph McIngvale, brother of Mattress Mac, is on the committee. I wonder if he's still mad at UNT?? It sure would be great if they could try to out-donate each other at their respective universities.

There's a pretty good team over in Ft. Worth that may have something to say about that. :o

My son and I go to a couple of SMU games each year, so we are probably going to opening day. This is Manny Sanders last year, and he will be drafted. I dont know a thing about Stephen F.'s team, but SMU Ex-QB Justin Willis will be playing WR for his final season. This could be interesting... Bo Mitchell and Willis on the field at the same time? JJ loves offensive options. We had the same thing at times last year with The Godfather and Riley on the field at the same time. Riley got knocked out for the year, so we didnt get as much time to see the WR pass option. I know, why do we care? In Denton we really dont, but it's college football... and bad college football is still better than no college football.

That's what I think...

GMG!!!

We can complain all we want but they are selling tickets. Remember, it's an option to report ticket sales or actual attendance. They won't care whether everyone shows.

This little snooty private school that is about 1/4 our size had twice our revenue last year.

Where is our campaign to sellout our opener?

Great point. All were are doing is bit(hing about how SMU sucks; meanwhile, they are pulling in the DFW fans to watch their games and we are doing nothing to attract folks to see our "new" coach and "progressing" football program. UNT needs to get a TV marketing campaign going for the area regarding our football program instead of a few tired looking road signs telling us how many student attend. Of course they will say "cough up X amount of $ and we WILL start a TV campaign...isn't that what the athletic dept and University is suppose to be doing with all of the fundraisers and tours around the country? Getting money from donors? Come on UNT, Fly Like an Eagle (mocking Pony up)!

Got this email today:

Hey,

I wanted to get some information to you since you are a part of area youth football. Attached is a flier outlining a special promotion for the season opener and another date in which tickets and food vouchers are available at a deeply discounted rate that we hope your league and teams would like to take advantage of with friends and family. Our Family 4 Pack is available and for a little as $54.00 you get 4 tickets, 4 drinks and 4 hotdogs to a SMU home football game – and there is no limit to how many of these packages you want to buy.

Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever. I would like the opportunity to work with you on organizing a fun team or league wide event if you are interested. We have many special opportunities for you to take advantage of.

Coming out to a college football game is a great team event and SMU’s Ford Stadium is a family friendly environment.

We welcome you and hope to see you at a game this season.

Thanks,

Terry Hemme
