Though I just can't see the kind of turn-around he is predicting I can say that his reasoning isn't completely "homerific". He makes a LOT of assumptions, like pointing out that we gave up 17 turnovers last season and will this season finish in the positive, or saying that our defense will be one of the better ones in the belt one sentence after out the 40 ppg given up last season. Still, IF we are smart enough to make use of our running game to "set the table" for the spread, and IF we aren't too stubborn to get under center, and IF our corners grew up during their trial by fire, and IF our special teams improves...then I can see where this guy is coming from. 6-2 in conference, no, but 4-4 or maybe even 5-3 are possible if all of the "if's" are satisfied.

I'm confused, are you just saying this to feel better in case we get blown out, or are you confusing bcs with fbs?

Technically, he is correct. all FBS teams are a member of the BCS, but some conferences were only told that to make them feel better about bending over every year. Kind of like the everyone gets a trophy philosophy.

I have not seen a single poster on this board this optimistic. He doesn't predict OOC records, but you would have to figure a 6-2 Sun Belt team could win at least 2, probably 3 of our non-conference games. So that would make us 8-4, 9-3 overall?! The past several seasons make it hard for me to conceive it, but if this prediction were to come true this season, I would be a happy, happy man.

Correct every member of Div - 1 is a BCS member in theory, there are 6 conferences that are considered BCS Conferences because they receive the automatic invitation to the Party.

Kind of - all 11 Div I FBS conferences are BCS conferences and all members are BCS schools. There are 6 conferences that receieve auto-bids to the BCS bowls and the other 5 have to play their way in with a ranking of 12 or above (16 or above if an autobid conference does not have someone ranked in the top 16). So you are all right and wrong, lol.

The Belt is a member of the BCS.

North Texas is a BCS school.

The Belt does not qualifiy for an auto-bid to a BCS bowl at this time.

North Texas is not an auto-bid BCS school.

The same statements can be made for any school in the MWC, the MAC, CUSA, and the WACky.

We are all BCS schools and we all have a chance to be invited to a BCS bowl game if we finish with a ranking of 12 or above. That may seem like a reach for the Belt but it is possible with the right schedule and some upsets in OOC. Boise did it and the WAC did not have much of a higher power ranking than the Belt. They had struggling teams like NMSU, Idaho, San Jose, La Tech, USU at the time... but Boise won a couple of solid OOC games, and swept their conference (including beating Nevada, Fresno, and Hawaii) so they got in. Without being a BCS school, they would not have been given the BCS bid. It was not an auto-bid as a result of winning their conference like the big 6 - but it was a BCS bid because like the Belt, the WAC is a BCS conference.

this is one of those threads that makes me bang my head against the wall. For all intensive purposes, a bcs school is one of the big 6 auto qualifiers. This is like trying to start an argument over the mid-major label. Everyone in the national media refers to us as non-bcs.

I should know, I am no. 1 on season showdown. (sarcasm and bragging, man I'm a loser.)

Kind of funny that this thread turned that way. I think everyone understands exactly what everyone else is saying, but sometimes it's more fun to nitpick and disagree.

I would like to point out that I responded first and smarmiest. The blame does not fall on me.
