Okay, what is this about?

Troy Franklin has switched back over to the offensive side of the ball and is an O-Lineman again. Probably the best fit in my opinion. Franklin was forced over to the defensive side of the ball last year because of numbers, or lack thereof at the defensive line spot. Now that the Mean Green has plenty of bodies over there, he can move back to his natural position where he was a two-time all-state selection at.

It seems there has been an excessive amount of tinkering with moving everybody all over the field. And this statement that he was all-state on the OL is strange--he is mentioned here and elsewhere as being an all-state DT.

He also suggests that Ira Smith might end up starting at SS.

This has got to be one of the deepest O Line's we've had in awhile.

Not much love there for Chatman , the Minnesota transfer , I thought he looked pretty good in the spring game.

I don't understand some of the listings either. We'll just have to trust that they get the right players on the field.

I don't understand the need for publicizing the depth chart going into fall practice. It's hard to believe that Atkinson, K. Jackson, Weber, Jenkins, Bean and maybe others will be left off of the two deep. If they are, we need to quit wasting scholarships for players with only two years eligibility who can't even make the first two units.

Just my personal thoughts. Ira Smith is too small (short) to play strong safety. He is supposedly the consumate cover corner and if he is then he should be playing there. If a player needs to be moved to strong safety it seems to me it should be Adams who is bigger, a little slower than Smith, and better equipped to battle the tight end or big receiver.

Kelvin Drake was second team all-conference and could be second team on his own team? Hollivay may be our best lineman. I once saw him take down his lineman blocking assignment and pick up a blitzing linebacker and take him down on the same play. As much as I like Feeley I sure wish that he could switch to tackle.

Probable the quickest player I've ever seen at NT was Antony Bridges who was a second team All American who transferred from Louisville to NT for his senior year. The reason I mention him is that I think he was even smaller than Smith and played safety. Unfortunately for NT, he was injured most of the year and didn't even make the All Southland Conference team. NT seems to be loaded at cornerback were three year starter Bush if running at second team.

Also according to TD's interview he is most impressed with Santiago and Gill on the offensive line and they both play tackles, so the best chance for other offensive linemen to start is probably at guard. Also as I have posted before, I think Franklin's future is much brighter in the offensive line. I hope they redshirt him this year, because this line is very deep.

I like NT putting out the depth chart, sure it will change but it keep interest in the program. I have to comment the athletic staff for making a much better attempt then in the past of trying to keep interest in the football program during the summer.

This is a post spring two deep so take it with a grain of salt, Bean didn't participate in most of spring practice while Atkinson, Jackson, and Weber were not even on campus.

What I take from the coaches placing Ira at Saftey is that they want their 11 best athletes on the field and Ira falls into that grouping.

If there are no major injuries on the OL during fall practice I wonder if we might see Feely take a redshirt. Unless the coahes think he's THAT good, I don't see why they wouldn't go that route.

It's been corrected now:

Where is Shavod Atkinson,
All three of the 3 JUCO d-linemen were not on the depth chart because they were not there during spring

and since when is Gilmore not going to start? I thought Gilmore was our premier D-lineman this season.

I don't think that it is really going to matter who starts really when we get going because I think there are going to be so many d-line packages and rotations going on that you are going to see alot of players seeing significant playing time this season...which is a good thing when you are talking about keeping people fresh and getting more of a pass rush from the d-line next season
