A relativly cheap, had-to-sign-someone signing. I'm OK with him replacing Bass...as for starting at the 5? Not so much...

And its not costing the full MLE...I think they still have about a million to play with and still have the 2.2 million veteran exception. Not sure though if you can roll them together, though.

The mavs have gotten more athletic with the Marion signing....now with Gooden they are more physical. I like that. Granted he is not a 5, but those don't grow on trees. I still think they could be 2nd round fodder next season, but it will be another entertaining season nonetheless.

I am nervous about putting him at the 5, but with Dampier having to play limited minutes this year, theoretically, he coud be a great small ball center.

I have no problem with finishing a game with Gooden, Dirk, Marion, Terry and Kidd..... That seems like a pretty good line up to me. Howard has faded in the fourth for two years straight now and come crunch time I don't really trust that he can produce. though I hope he can prove me wrong.

All in all this is a cheap signing of a player that no one really wantedbecause the mavs had to. Thats ok with me

He is more atheltic than Damp , but that's not really saying much.

There is a reason he's been on so many teams since he joined the league. If you carefully watch his every minute on the floor you learn to notice how lazy he is. Sure he can have nights and fill up a boxscore , but he will make no difference if the Mavs signed him to increase their chances of a Western Conference title.
