This question somehow materialized out of a Grapevine discussion...but where is "God's Country" to you.

This place may be awe inspiringly beautiful...maybe so secluded you can't communicate with the outside world, not that you would want to...spiritually meanigful or some-such...or a place that you seek when you need something to just make you happy.

I stated earlier that I feel there is no more perfect place in the world than the Columbia River Gorge just outside of Portland, OR - some 50 waterfalls spilling into the Columbia which seperates Oregon and Washington with some beautiful old bridges criss-crossing the river (I'm a big fan of the bridge).

Others high on my list are the Texas Hill country...especially the drive up 281...and the South Coast of Massachusetts; Buzzard's Bay (think Martha's Vineyard).

Hard to place it just one place. I love the forests and surrounding area of East Texas tho. I could get lost on my grandparents estate near Canton.

Also big on the gulf coast...beautiful(and warm) water as well as the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone for outright magnificence.

If you really want to see God's Country in the Hill Country get off 281! Some of my favorites drives are down FM 32 from Blanco towards New Braunfels, Takes you over the Devil's Backbone and gives you the best views in Texas. RR 337 from Medina to Vanderpool is another stunning drive. RR 12 to Wimberley, and the FM 306/2673/2722 loop around New Braunfels.

Cooper's is over rated

Yeah, my father and brother agree with you on that. There's a lot of divided loyalties in that town over the two Bar-B-Que joints. I'm in the Cooper's camp. Rest of family is in the other. Since CWB and I are going into Junction-silence from this point on, I'll just say the other place rhymes with Bums. Begin Junction Silence. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What an enjoyable day on this section of the board.

Did the extremist on both sides get nervous that folks were watching them or is this just a fluke?

It's all about keeping the Californians out

Californian by birth or current zipcode? I'm so consumed by my white-hot burning hatred for outsiders, that I'll ban myself to keep the purity of this board alive (Brian Kilmeade's picture is up on my wall)! I'm that serious about it.

For my money you can't beat Wise County back roads in a beat up 1980 Camaro with the stereo blaring Whitesnake.

I don't know if it's god's country, but the most relaxing vacation spot I've ever spent was a week in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Fishing and hiking followed by more fishing and hiking.

When I hear "God's Country" I always think of Montana. I don't know why, and I've never been there, but it sounds wonderful.

Besides between the legs of a beautiful lady, I'll have to say Maui, North Cali, SW Texas, ....wait this list is getting long. I'll sum it up by saying the US of A.

USA = God's country.
