The best HBO series ever was Deadwood http://www.hbo.com/deadwood/ . In fact, because of my fondness for this series, I've often found myself musing after one of NT's big recent losses "I wonder what Al Swearingen would do if he were Athletic Director at NT?"

My wife is still mad at the producer/director of that series for just ending it without tying up a lot of loose ends.

HBO has also produced a lot of excellent movies. One of my favorites is "Conspiracy". http://www.spring.net/karenr/mdbro/conspiracy.html

What is wrong with you guys, forget about it. Sopranos was the best all time, don't make me send Big Sal over to whack you.

OZ will always be my favorite. Deadwood, Rome, & Sopranos deserve a mention as well.

Also, I highly recommend mini-series Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, and John Adams. All excellent.

Deadwood = Shakespeare meets Old West

I like that one show... The one with the overused profanity and gratuitous nudity that the critics all creamed themselves over.

I think they put the seasons out in an overpriced DVD set... I just can't think of the name of it.

You watched a show about white men and guns?! Kinda shocked.

I loved Band of Brothers, and Im looking forward to the new WWII series.

Pretty lame shot Rudy. Any show about the west was about white men (mostly) and guns.....plus brown(ish) men with various sharp weapons........and guns. However, as I recall in the series, there were as many people killed with knives as guns.

Silver, you'll have to forgive Rudy. He's a little SHORT on his knowledge about the west.

J/K Rudy, but you make it so easy.

Im not the person that made the bold claim all white people want to shoot black people. And not all westerns are about white people. Blazing saddles had a black sheriff.

Actually, Im not. I minored in history and study it in my spare time. For the love of all things holy, please try to come up with a better shot at me than my height. Its like pointing out that a 5 year old likes apple juice. Falls under the No s**t Sherlock category.

I am flabbergasted that nobody has yet to mention the greatest show in the history of TV - The Wire.

Dead on. And that show is dead on, which is kinda scary.

I always hear that this show is pure greatness. I tried getting into it in the 2nd season, but I was lost. Guess I just need to break down and get the first season and go from there.

How does it compare to the Shield (my favorite TV show)?

Am I the only one that watched Carnivale'? Apparently I was since it got cancelled, but it was the best show on TV ever. I wish they would release a book or somthing so that I could know how it was supposed to end.

There might be a little less action and violence, but the characters are more dyanmic in my opinion. The Shield was greatness, but if you put them side by side I think that The Wire is a better show on a number of different levels. Yes, start with season 1- that helps big time.

The Shield was among my all time favorites. The I watched several episodes of the Wire and never got into it.

But Vick Mackey was greatness.

One thing I always liked is how the stars of The Sheild were humble and everyday guys. Michael Chiklis told of how his neighbor had a friend coming over to watch an episode, and his friend was a huge fan. The neighbor asked if Chiklis could come over and say hi. Michael said "I'll do you one better." He called up the members of the team and had them come over to Chiklis' house. During the show, they all busted into the neighbor's house like they were on a raid and scared the crap out of the guy that had come over, then had a good laugh with him. How many people in Hollywood would do that?
