Sunbelt Wants To Send Team Besides Conf Champs

But, isn't it possible that a team who won the SBC not go to a bowl at all under this format?

It is possible, but I think this is nothing but a good thing...

For a team that has been to that bowl, say 3 years in a row, it might be necessary to play some stiffer competition than what other conferences send to that bowl game...

in 2000 we were 5&6, conference co-champs because we beat middle tenn, who i think was 9&2, and went to new orleans bowl where we were pounded by colorado state. the game was poorly attended, low t.v. ratings, and embarresed the conference because of our record. this proviso would give the sun belt an out.

Actually, ESPN made a special note about how exceptionally good the TV ratings were for a first time bowl game.

I really hope that the Belt does not mess up and lose their best asset, the New Orleans Bowl. There is not a better location in college football to play a bowl game. Maybe the key is to allow the NO bowl to have the option of getting the first place team or another that is more suited geographically. I really doubt there are many teams that would prefer to go to another low level bowl rather than to New Orleans.
