We are not a program (yet) with a culture of self-support, regardless of opponent. Sorry, the opponent, or meaningful circumstance of playing the opponent, does matter for our attendance.
As you mentioned, students, and marketing to all fans, is the key going forward. Basketball seems to be largely on self-serve with this AD. Besides the lure of t-shirts to students (lame), what else has been done to attract them around campus?
Signage around campus saying "game tonight..be there!!", Frisbee dogs at halftime, free food coupons, half-court shot for $$, drawing to sit on the bench for second half of the game, etc?
On the ESPN MBB page tonight, video...
"BYU fan drains half-court shot to ignite hometown fans"
Providence is 50 miles from Boston but it's a lot more rural between them. Providence (190K) is a little larger than Denton (155K), but more isolated, like Gainesville instead...detached from the DFW metro area.
They also play in the Big East and a history of playing Brand basketball programs.
I wish we had a conference with basketball schools like:
Boston College, Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, Syracuse, and Creighton.
No way Temple should be as high as #77 in Football value.
They rent a Pro football stadium away from campus for $4.6MM in 2023.
The average home attendance for the Temple Owls football team in 2023 was 13,446.
