He's not white!

I love it...had to be done. The window is closing on the Dirk-potential-championship-era...and with the Kidd resigning (again, had to be done) you need to load up around Dirk now with as much talent as possible.

Damp is still flip-able...I'm not sure to where. I still hope Josh goes...but I doubt it.

The throw-in of Humphries doesn't suck...and is nice insurance if Bass walks.

The signing of Ross is a nice pick up, and an upgrade as a defensive wing over Antoine Wright.

On paper, no, this doesn't put Dallas in the LA discussion...but there wasn't the possiblity of getting talent to match LA on paper. Right now this is a better team than last season and thats all you could've asked.

Agree, better than last year, but who plays defense?

Kidd at 1? way below average, can't stop the drive

Howard at 2? good defender at 3, average at best at 2

Marion at 3? don't recall him being a great defender, but not all that familiar with his defensive prowess (which says something).

Dirk at 4? hahahahahahahahahahaha

Gorat or Damp at 5? again, not all that familiar with Gorat, but very suspicious of the big white stiff center considering this teams history with the same. Damp = slow, immobile, bad handed old guy.

Terry as 6th man? logging huge minutes at the 2 spot, same catagory as Dirk hahahahahahaha

I have visions of driving dunks, dunks from sweet assists from a driving point guard, and Kidd playing 5 feet off of Chris Paul while Paul goes for 50. Maybe I'm wrong.

I see another trade in the future, possibly moving Howard and Damp.

Marion can lock up...and he can do it against a 2,3 or 4. Howard can play defense when he wants to. Gortat is a massive defensive upgrade...and even if Damp stays, in a back-up role his 6 fouls are more valuable than Hollins or Diop...so you improve defensivly at the 5, and you're right, that is important when Dirk is your 4. Ross is a much better defender than George, Wright, Bucknor, Singleton or anybody else they've trotted out at the 2-3 for the past 5 seasons.

From what I have heard is that Gorat is actually quite mobile for a big guy. Those with more bb knowledge than I seem to be real happy with this move.

He's almost as good as Chris Anstey, the "best running big man in the NBA". :P

The fact that you typed this while wearing your Kosta Koufos jersey makes the point invalid.

Just be glad I haven't started dancing the Tsamiko in my new Nick Calathes jersey.

Has his own website : <a href="http://www.nathan-jawai.com/" target="_blank">Jawai

Buckner looks to be cut. Is there enough roster spots for Jawai to stay ?

Could he go NBDL?

Assuming you make no more deals, bring back Bass and let Singleton walk -

1. Dirk

2. Jet

3. JKidd

4. Josh

5. Marion

6. Gortat

7. Dampier

8. Ross

9. Carroll

10. Barea

11. Beaubois

12. Humphries

13. Bass

14. Jawai

15. Nivins

Or you bring back Singleton or sign another player, and let Jawai and Nivins duke it out in summer league for the right to wear a suit behind the bench while the other works in Europe or the NBDL. Two raw, big men is not a bad thing to have. I stand by that sentence.

So, you start Kidd, Josh, Marion, Dirk and Gortat - already more athletic and better defensivly...bring JJ, Jet, Ross, Bass and Damp off the bench as the primary back-up at each spot, with Carroll and Humphries as you emegency options (not bad considerring most teams have rookies and rookie FAs as their 11 & 12 active players)...and you get the luxury of your high-potential guys like Beaubois, Jawai and Nivins the chance to develop.

Annnnndddd...you still have trade pieces if another move looks good. Things lookin up at the AAC

I'm not letting myself get optimistic until both Damp and J-Ho are either dead or gone. It was however a nice birthday present to learn of George's departure.

We need Damp this year - but the nightmare scenario is Gortat gets hurt, Hollins and Bass leave, and he pulls a Millwood and forces us to play him enough to trigger his option.

No. You are wrong.

We need his contract to play with next summer - not his contributions as a human being

I still think they need to make a move for someone who can D up a legit point guard. If not, they better plan on scoring about 115 a game. Utah, San Antonio, New Orleans, and LA (and I'm sure I am missing some others with young, quick points) should kill the Mavs in a 7 game series if both teams are healthy. I think this is a start, but I hope they are not done.

Head coach was on the tickt this afternoon and said "stay tuned" when asked about future trades. I would love to see them move both Damp and JHo.

Kinda like Raef's contract was played with by Portland? His life-force draining abilities need to be removed from this group while there's still time.

Yes...I too would love to sign that guy who locks up Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Chris Paul and Derek Fisher (really? LA?), but unfortunantly Fairytail Wonderguard is under-contract and has a no trade clause.

You're not going to upgrade at point...Ainge dissed Rondo to see if he could pull Tyreke Evans and another player on draft night...Williams, Paul and Parker are going to get theirs...but Utah is whiter than Dallas, New Orleans is broke and Duncan is ancient...PGs don't carry teams to titles.

Defense helps...and this roster has much better defensive ability than any other in the Dirk era.

I would love to see Damp and Josh still moved...few things power me down more than seeing a 6'11" 270lb man with defeat-face all the time...and I just can't trust Josh...but even if the moves are done I know that this current roster is much better than last year's 50 win, conference semi-final team. Thats all you could've hoped for going into this off-season.

Norm is chatting up Donnie Nelson...sounds like Bass is as good as gone. Donnie is saying that he can't match money or playing time availibility that other teams (says Portland, Detroit and Orlando)...seems that the possibility of a sign and trade to Orlando for Gortat is being discussed. The advantage of that...I believe, I'm no expert on the insane NBA salary cap...is that we still would retain our MLE to land another quality free agent.

Who's left for the MLE that we would want (or do we divide amongst Barnes, Daniels, etc.) - and if we somehow don't lock up Gortat, are we forced to turn our attention West to the Clippers Camby/Kaman log-jam?

I'm not asking for Mr. All-World point guard, just someone that can D up against a 1 when needed. Currently, there is NO ONE on this roster that can do this. You have much greater BBall personnel knowledge than I, so surely there has to be a defensive specialist at the 1 on someones roster that is a backup. The Mavs don't need the guy to score. Hell, they dont need any offensive production out of him at all (can slide Kidd to 2 on defense and keep him at 1 on offense), just someone that can cover the 1.

Ross is seen a a pretty good specialist if the situation calls for it, but I think we're going to have to rely on a combination of Howard/Kidd to at least slow the other guy or make him work.

We can handle the PG lighting us up - it's when he goes for 10+ assists that we lose (remember the Phoenix series from 2006 where we just let Nash get his and focused on the others?)
