if you ever watch "...i survived" on a&e, there is a episode of a surfer who was saved by a group of dolphins from 18' great white shark. apparently they have been known to show sympathy for animals in trouble and surrounded the guy and started messing with the shark and doing flips around the guy until the shark left. pretty cool.
