U T S A Targeting C U S A

I see they are trying to combine with a high school district to build an $80 million basketball arena that would seat 10,500. Anyone confirm they also want to build a campus football stadium vs. using the Alamodome? That would be a huge startup cost to them to have to build two venues without a football conference commitment.

There are several big giant hurdles for UTSA to climb before they can even think about C-USA membership. This is nothing more than hype on the part of the San Antonio media who would love to fill their pages with coverage on UTSA.

UTSA absolutely expects to move to an on-campus stadium at some time in the future. The stadium would be funded jointly by UTSA, the school district, San Antonio and Bexar County. Not an unusual relationship for the city - SA, Bexar and SAISD just started a joint sports project at St. Mary's.

I would not be too concerned. The facts of life in FCS (i.e. losing to Pine Bluff by 40 in front of 10,000 in a 70,000 seat stadium). They could be lucky, but it's not likely - TxSt and Lamar are ahead of them to get into FBS - much less the CUSA (if it continues to exist in a recognizable form after the next re-alignment.
