I had never heard Nick Saban mentioned. Not sure I believe it.
Jerry Moore was a Nebraska assistant hired to replace Hayden Fry. But he tried to repalce Fry's wide open offense with a Nebraska running game and it mostly failed. He went 11-11 and luckily Tech hired him away. He learned later how to really coach at App St.
Moore was replaced by Bob Tyler, a former Miss St head coach, with baggage. He only lasted one season at 2-9 in 1981. Corky Nelson was next. He had been a former NT asst in 1970. NT also made the poor decision then to drop to 1-AA. Nelson was a good coach and got more big wins and fans pumped for NT as a 1-AA program since Fry.
Dennis Parker was a Texas high school name coach, won State at Marshall (an early Todd Dodge) as we tried to get media attention and recruiting inroads with him. Nice guy, had a bit role in the movie Necessary Roughness. But an 11-21 record couldn't get it done at the 1-AA level.
We finally made the decision to return to 1-A football and hired Matt Simon. 1995 we were Independent during the transition and had the most brutal schedule in our football history, before or since.
We should be doing everything we can to get into the New PAC before the window closes. We get squat from the AAC and unfortunately it will likely be a shell of its former self in a 5 years. Losing SMU hurt. We don't get to play a local rival in any of our sports. We got Army as a replacement, but for football only. Our athletic program resume across the board is good and getting better, we have nice facilities and we have location, location, location on our side. It's not like we "bring the DFW market," but at least we are in the market. We are relatively easy to travel to which has to be a plus. We don't need a travel partner or to pair up with anyone else to make it worth it. Please, for the future of our athletic program, get it done.
I don't think so. I think they're going to look at the offense and start poking around... a good AD that is, trying to be thorough. And we didn't make national waves, so the AD making what would be considered a risky hire would have to be local to the region. Which at the moment there are no openings... https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/43939856/mens-college-basketball-coaching-changes-tracker-2025-2026
Maybe Minnesota? Given they played us and lost, will never outrecruit their competition and thus will need to be different. It'd be an out of RF hire, but that's the only opening that would look up Ross' skirt.
