AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore pitcher Brittany Barnhill has elected to transfer from The University of Texas Softball team. Barnhill was the Longhorns’ top hurler as a sophomore.

“I am grateful for everything that The University of Texas has done for me and I’m going to miss everyone very much,” Barnhill said. “I definitely enjoyed my two years at Texas. The girls are some of the best girls that I have ever been around.

“I feel like I need to find somewhere a little smaller that fits more with my personality,” Barnhill said.”

The Rhome, Texas, native earned All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2009 after posting a 26-14 record and a 2.70 ERA. At the plate, she hit .259 with eight homers and 26 RBI while slugging at a .534 clip.

“Brittany is a student-athlete who pushes herself in the classroom as well as on the playing field, and we sincerely wish her success,” head coach Connie Clark said.

Barnhill registered a 33-24 mark in her two years at UT, posting 264 strikeouts in 72 career appearances. She hit .254 for her career and notched 59 hits, 21 runs scored and 35 RBI.

Brittany Barnhill played her high school ball at Justin Northwest High School which is about a five minute drive from the new North Texas softball stadium.

Would love to see her end up at UNT, but that "smaller" thing might be a stumbling block for her. UNT is not that small these days in case folks haven't noticed. But, being from Justin NW might help. Would love to see her pitching for the Mean Green.
