RALEIGH, N.C. - Appalachian State University football head coach Jerry Moore was one of six legendary sports figures inducted in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday evening at the North Raleigh Hilton.

Moore was enshrined along with former NC State football standout and North Carolina A&T director of athletics Willie Burden, North Carolina women's basketball head coach Sylvia Hatchell, former East Carolina, Wake Forest and South Carolina men's basketball head coach Dave Odom, Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford and professional golfer Roger Watson.

The winningest football coach in ASU and Southern Conference history, Moore is 178-73 in 20 seasons at Appalachian and 205-121-2 in 27 years as a head coach, which includes stints at North Texas (1979-80) and Texas Tech (1981-85). He is one of only four active NCAA Division I FCS head coaches with 200 career victories and ranks 23rd among all NCAA Division I coaches (FCS or FBS) in all-time victories.

Once he transcended his Nebraska background and developed his own offensive style, he became an effective coach. He grew as a coach over time. Too bad it didn't happen while he was here.

Yes, he reduced a very good 9-2 returning Hayden Fry team to 5-6 in his first year with his Nebraska-I offense. Glad the light finally came on for him to develop a passing offense.

      Improving the Student Game Day Experience

      Also, I’ve been following this program closely for 30 years and the student support has NEVER been better. Last home game the student section was FULL and we have one of the biggest bands in the country. Can it be even better? Of course, but I give a lot of credit to the AD, Maniacs & Greeks for what they are doing with student attendance. It is making a difference. Now, if we can just get a higher proportion of our disconnected alumni plugged back in… then we will be rocking and rolling.

      Well, the student sports culture was way worse when we played at Fouts which was a lot closer to main campus. It is now an extra 10 minute walk across the bridge, this is not an acceptable obstacle.

      PAC is back

      I don't get the Texas State love if UTSA gets the nod. Why go after two schools basically in the same market? I can understand one or the other but both makes no sense for one conference if you're trying to expand your media footprint. Highly doubt they're both in play together.

      🤨 never a fan of those helmets. If we had wore them consistently for 30 years with more successful history during that period then “throwback” nostalgia would make sense. I wonder how they appeal to fans not old enough to remember seeing them during Dickey’s era.

      Fouts Field was a better location for students. And if Apogee was placed in the parking lot across the Street from the Superpit instead of Fouts footprint that would have optimum. I wish the leadership would have saw Fouts replacement through the lense of distancing itself from the "commuters school" profile as much as possible. I don't think the location hurts student attendance at all vs Fouts location. It was always a long walk from most of student housing.
