...Little Rock - Authorities have identified the soldier killed in Monday's double-shooting outside a U.S Army recruitment office in west Little Rock.

...

At a briefing Monday afternoon, Little Rock police chief Stuart Thomas identified the suspect as Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, of Little Rock. Thomas says Muhammad also goes by the name Carlos Bledsoe.

At the Monday-afternoon briefing, Thomas said investigators believe Muhammad acted alone, and likely carried "political and religious motives." Thomas said the gunman targeted the military but was not believed to be part of a broader scheme.

Please pray for the families of these two young soldiers who pledged to protect our nation from harm.

---It is a big problem when people mix religion and political beliefs, too emotional and often irrational acts result (any religion..note the inquisition and the wars that resulted from the Protestant reformation ). That is why our forefathers were wise to try to separate them in our constitution.. It also explains why the Middle East is in such a horrible mess. This is not to say political people can't be very religious, just don't try to impose their religious beliefs on others through government..

Really . . . Can you provide information to prove that "this is why" our fathers included the establishment clause in the First Amendment?

It had nothing to do with that, and your statement suggests that you do not understand the nature of that separation.

If I remember right, it's got something to do with that sort of business being between "A man and his god". Plus, the mixture of religion and government often ends up with corruption of one or the other (see pre-20th century Europe), or it ends up with entire breakdowns of societies, like parts of the Middle East.

Anyways, that's a sidenote. Religion has and always will be disfigured to motivate someone to commit horrible acts, and that's almost always contrary to the foundation of those beliefs.

Funny, I don't think Muhammed was using the government to impose his religious beliefs. Or is it your contention the dead soldier was using the government to impose religious beliefs on Muhammed?

Or maybe you are just trying to what you always do -- insert the ultra-conservative, christian right, boogy man into the debate.
