God save us from liberal "empathy." After President Barack Obama announced his empathetic Supreme Court nominee this week, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, we found out that some people are more deserving of empathy than others....

...Let's hope she's as empathetic to New Haven residents who die in fires fought by inferior firefighters as a result of her decision....

...Such results never entice Democrats to reconsider their undying devotion to the teachers' unions that routinely produce students who can't read, write or do basic math.

I was going to read the column, then I realized it was scribbled by that ultra-conservative non-thinker Ann Coulter and realized I'd be better off printing the column out and use it to wipe my rear-end. What ended up on the paper was the same thing that the column was.

I really think it should be a rule that conservatives don't get to post Ann Coulter to support their side, and liberals don't get to post Arianna Huffington.

That's a good idea! However, I, a liberal, was wanting to post something from Ann Coulter to back up one of my arguments. So, can liberals post Ann, and conservatives post Arianna? Really, they're so far in either direction, they're probably embracing at whatever point where the curvature of the Earth brought them together. We do believe the Earth is round, don't we?

Dude Ann Coulter isn't even politico hot.

Unless she is mid-abortion...but then even Melissa Rivers is hot.

Hey, I was just being sarcastic; to me, she's just another anorexic girl. I must start using that sarcasm emoticon, I guess.

OK, yes, good read and it should be read. Why are liberals all for "free speech" until someone writes something they disagree with? Go figure. Look, the nominee is an activist judge...like it or not...that's the truth. Her ruling in the NJ case is terrible and clearly shows she is willing to do as she says...make policy from the bench. If this is what you want your judes to do...even though it is not what the Constitution intends judges to do...then so be it, but at least admit that fact and get on with it. The old saying "a stuck pig squeals" does seem to fit some of these responses to Coulter from time to time. It always seems to get down to attacking the individual with the liberal crowd. Go back and read our "liberal friends" responses to anything posted from Coulter and you will find the liberal crowd generally goes after her on a personal basis. Why is that? Nothing to say of consequence to refute her position? I don't know...really, don't care, but it is interesting to watch the liberal side always degenerate into personal attacks on Coulter. Does anyone here think she cares what liberals think of her? Same could be said for what conservatives think of the few liberal writers that seem to make the national stage. Anyone think Huffington cares what, say, Coulter thinks of her? I think not.

This nomination will go through. Why? Because I do not think the Republicans have the backbone to withstand all the name calling and racist darts that will be thrown at them if they try to stop it...which they certainly should, but with no backbone...well...approval certain! I doubt it will move the court any further to the left...she will just be another "minority" opinion in most cases. She has been overturned so many times in her rulings that she has to put shoes on her hands.

Let's see. Seems like I heard a rumor that the FW Fire Department has a union. Has that diminished the quality of firefighting in Fort Worth? If so, maybe it should go away, and the firemen of Fort Worth could then be left to the whims of local politics.

I've not read any extensive studies on teacher unions, and their benefits, or lack thereof, but it's my firm belief that if kids can't read it's more the fault of the parents than the school system. Actually, unless we are talking about a special learning condition on the part of the child, I'll go as far as saying that it's just about all the parents' fault if their kids can't read.

I've said this many times to many people. You can build the grandest school facilities in the world and place it at any random location in America, but the children going to that school will not come out any smarter unless THEIR PARENTS GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THEIR EDUCATION.

If you don't read to your kids when they are vey young (and later as well). If you don't require them to show you their school work and help them when they ask for help. And if you don't interact (positively and professionally) with school personnel about your child's educational needs. Then when your child cannot read, by the time they are in Jr. High (which is wayyyy too late in my estimation) it is your fault.

And while I'm on this rant, here's a simple test for any parent of young (two or older) children about how beneficial a toy that they are thinking of buying their kids might be. Does this toy A. increase the interaction between me (or any other human) and my child? or B. decrease the interaction between me (or any other human) and my child?

The choice is yours.

people hate Ann Coulter because she is a raving bitch. She goes out of her way to be rude to the people that she interviews, as she says shocking things to draw attention to herself. Is Arianna Huffington uber liberal and biased? Of course, but at least she is not a c-word when she speaks to people. That is why there is an overwhelming negative reaction to Coulter - she is just a bitch.

First off, completely agree with your assessment of education.

Now to this point. I've really been thinking about this, and I can't for the life of me understand how someone who's entire livelihood, income, health care, life insurance and retirement is 100% funded by tax payer dollars and protected by union membership can so consistently take such overt anti-union and anti-public everything stances.

I guess we are opposites since I've never taken public funding of any kind and have been working without a safety net my entire life yet I support the existence of a good number of unions and tax funded entities.

Fine by me Bill. The only reason I'm a member at all is because not a cent of our money goes to the International AFF. And since the FWFD is a State Civil Service entity I doubt it ever will. Still, when times are hard the city doesn't lay emergency workers off, they simply stop hiring when folks retire which shortchanges the system. It's no skin off our nose, we have worked short of manpower and equipment before...for years dating back to I don't know when, maybe the 50's?, even when it violated NFPA standards, and still got the job done regardless and without a single crybaby public excuse or protest or holding the city's feet to the fire for it. Unlike these bafoons.

Well, wait, I take that back. There was one protest held in the city council chambers a few years ago by ONE individual and WITHOUT union support I might add, that got a little public, maybe to the point that it recieved a report on the local news that night and the next day in the paper, demanding he be hired as battalion chief and not allowed to die on the promotion list when it expired which happens to everyone at some point on our job. And I know you and Emmit and I have discussed it before so there's no reason to rehash it here again. However, ironically the City of Dallas is now currently suffering because of it.
