I'm all in favor of this, if it were to mean the total elimination of the income tax. Unfortunately this plan....says that those making over $100,000 would have to pay both (if I read it right). And you know how the government is.....the $100,000 limit could easily come down to a much lower number. That's what I suspect will happen. They'll institute a national sales tax under the ruse of doing away with the income tax.....and then we'll (all who pay taxes) have both. Here's the story:

I am against any national sales tax and this is even worse if it would not eliminate income tax. I believe any national sales tax would lead to a black market. I would rather see a flat tax.

I'm against it. The tax code is excellent for catching white collar criminals and insurance frauds. It also carves out many areas for tax exemption or deferral.

Plus, taxes rarely go down. The thirst Congress has for money is mitigated by the tax code by a large degree. There are many things you can do to delay the taxing of your money. There is no way to do that with a national sales tax.

The national sales tax crowd are as shortsighted a political bunch as you'll meet.

About a flat tax...I saw then Senator Bill Bradley on TV....proposing one probably 20 years ago. That was the first I had ever heard of a flat tax. He said that it would be so simple....folks could do their taxes on a blank post card. I forget the amount of flat tax he mentioned....I think it might have been 17%.
