I was thinking if only the UNT fan base would buy White UNT caps with green lettering we could save the planet if we always wore them when in the sunlight.

News Flash: All of you people would already be dead from global warming, if it wasn't for us bald white guys.

You're freaking welcome.

I appreciate your sacrifice so that I may enjoy my full head of hair.

What about all us pasty white guys going shirtless at the pool this summer?

Is that your body's roof? I don't think so. Nice attempt at horning in on the glory of us planet savers.

Just for sake of argument... Is the color the problem? I know in the summer, when you wear a black shirt, you are absorbing more sun and hotter. Why wouldn't it work for your roof? I don't like the idea of a white roof, but that is just vanity speaking. If it would cool my house easier and lower my bill, then I am apt to listen.

Oh yeah you would save money for sure, but white stains from weather, especially from leaves if you have trees, so it gets ugly fast unless you have a low pitch roof and even then it really only looks clean when it is new. I have a low pitched white crushed stone roof.

See there? good reason against it. However, what about some plastic weather resistant white roofing material? Laminate or something. Then I can just power wash the bad boy.

We just had a roof put on the house. We chose a white shingle simply b/c it would save some on energy bills. We already had a white roof, so not much of a change. Hours after the roofers were done a storm came up and hail was in the area. Fortunately it didn't hit us. What are the odds? New roof and immediately afterwards a hail storm.

I think you would still think a white roof looks like crap on a high to normal pitched roof though a compromise may be light gray or tan. The other problem could be if you are in an HOA they get very particular about roofing material. I am not sure I would want to be on a wet plastic roof with a power-washer, and if you have ever owned a white car you may understand the pains it takes to get keep clean. The dust in air the with rain streak the hell out of it. So it may be a interesting study to see what the saving would be with cleaning factored in. If you don't have trees I think I would skip the white roof and just put solar panels in if trees are not a problem. I saw a neat device last week at a convention in Vegas that helps cool the panels to increase the productivity of solar panels some 300%, it is some kind of after market add-on that by keeping the temperature down the solar panel is always efficient. It was explained to me at 90 degrees the panels normally get too hot and stop producing. Not sure about this device but it seemed convincing at the show. It was the ICSC conference (International Council of Shopping Centers) last week.

It is a moot point for me. I am in a historic district and I can't even get new double paned windows. If I tried to replace the roof with a non-historically accurate material, they would take my house. Damn liberals.

All in all, I don't think people even *think* of a white roof, so this person suggesting it, isn't a bad thing. It makes perfect sense, and maybe some people will act on it.... Like shopping malls, airports, etc.

Dude...that's like washing your car. You are tempting the gods.

This whole white roof thing is so silly, I'm hesitent to even justify it with a comment....but wouldn't the white roofs reflect the sun's energy back into our atmosphere and make the situation worse? I mean this whole let's reflect the sun's energy strategy would need to occur way before it reached the surface of the planet wouldn't it?
