"The idea: More vacation will stimulate the economy through fewer sick days, better productivity and happier employees."

Intelligent employers will manipulate salaries and payroll to accomidate this should it pass. I'd much rather take a $50,000 a year job with a month's vacation time than a $60,000 with two weeks.

So far, no group has come out in opposition of the bill. Nor has anyone announced opposition to roller coaster rides, cookouts on the beach or salt-water taffy on the boardwalk.

Didn't Obama just get lambasted by the Nevada Governor for steering people away from Vegas?

---You just explained one reason why a lot of people go into education. .... A lot women do this also to be home with kids when they are off... which saves on day-care costs which means they can earn less and still be at the same point financially.. I also felt sorry for kids who were off in the summer and both parents were working... no supervision in many cases and not a great deal for them.

--This is very unlikely to pass.

Most European countries offer a minimum of 3 weeks a year, I find that interesting.

And Europe has unemployment problems that would have our citizens marching in the streets. Well, maybe not, but at least blogging about it.

I haven't had a job that didn't offer vacation since I was in high school working at McDonald's. Is this really necessary?

Nope--- I think it is a bad idea. Really tough on very small businesses.

(shock for once I agree with you... but I'll bet whatever I post first ..you would disagree with..as usual)

That's what I thought too, but it's for businesses with more than 100 employees. How do you define very small? I've worked for a couple joints that were maybe 30 people, and there was always paid vacation. Of course, I would never take a full time job that didn't offer it, but that's just me an my pesky compensation negotiation skills.

i work for a HUGE company and just celebrated my 7 year anniversary. At 7 years you get 4 weeks vacation. I have never had that before and let me tell you, when and if I leave this company, I don't know what I'd do going back down to 2 or 3 weeks. However, that is one of the few perks we get around this place.

Tell me about it. I finally got that coveted 4th week and used it as a point of leverage in getting my next and final job. I said I wasn't moving without equal vacation status and X% pay increase. It worked. Now I'm at square zero, and will probably have to deal with one week when I get to working again. It's gonna' be a tough pill to swallow, but I'll build the leverage back up soon enough.
