Gilmore is one of the best defenders we have had in awhile , but can the D Line step up ? The LB are experienced and DBs are talented and deep. I have faith in DeLoach. About what is the average #ppg that could make us successful in 09 ? I'd like to keep it under 30.

Agreed. And a good goal.

If our offense can produce, just think what we can do with a top-70 defense.

I voted 36-40. I would be happy with that. Any improvement will be nice. Actually, if we could just still be somewhat in the games at the break, I would be happy. That is a big "IF" for our offense though. I may be in the minority here, but after watching that spring game, I am very little impressed with our offense. I think the offensive coordinator maybe the next coach we need to move on.

Fixed it.

No, actually I voted for a higher total ppg. The defense will be much improved, but as was mentioned earlier, the offense needs to do its part to help that average...keep the ball and eat up some clock so our D can at least catch it's breath. Tough to keep the ppg avg. down when you are "running on empty" in the 4th qtr.

I voted 21-25. Last year the team gave up 45 ppg, so I cut this ppg in half.

The defense for 09 is not the same team as 07 and 08. DeLoach has more

experienced players to work with, that have been in his system for a year.

The interior DL has veterans that can start. A featured player with Gilmore,

and a new demension with Cantly and Akpunku. Add in the JUCO's, especially

Atkinson and Weber, under the guidence of Coach Mike Nelson, the DL play

will certainly be stronger. I think Cantly can become a defensive star quickly.

The true freshmen secondary that got burned last year by very good teams,

now have a year of college game experience. With these freshmen, the current

veterans, and the additonal JUCO's and CB transfers, the secondary play will be

strong. The LB's return, with experience and depth. Moving Phillips and Hill to

LB is a very good option for the LB's and the defensive team. MLB Tobe Nwigwe,

a 2 year starter, has his best year in 08, and is the leader of the defense.

Nwigwe and Gilmore are considered to be NFL prospects.

I think DeLoach and his staff, will be able to futher develop the defense for 09,

and certainly cut down the ppg average.
