Was your friend Hispanic? Cheap, but I couldn't resist.

Also, you do NOT have to carry your ID with you all the time. That is not the law. You must give an officer your correct name and DOB when legally detained. That is the law.

Im going through trying to find the exact law. Any gov't issued id is property of the state, thus must be displayed to a magistrate or peace officer upon demand. Most officers arent going to give you too much hell about it, just make sure you dont lie about your name or date of birth, thus the failure to id fugitive comes in.

--- I completely vote with the cop. He might could have handled it better (seemed pretty patient to me) but he had the right to get her to move out of a public area because she was interfering with the right of others to use the walk. . Teachers suffer the same problem in classroom. Some kids think can do anything. Those who are siding with her probably have never been in charge of anything. She was a total idiot. Her real problem was not sitting on the sidewalk but ignoring a lawful request.

--- Cops, firemen, etc., and educators have to have the authority to be in control of their situation or just do away with them. Obviously they have to follow certain rules but his request for her to move and later to provide identification was lawful.
