Saw it this weekend, and I'm not a Trek fan in a huge amount. The tech is cool, but I don't care for much more than that generally. But the movie is a really great roller coaster ride and it's faithful to the original show and movies in terms of how the characters are portrayed. Without the big plot monster in play this would be a good, exact reboot of the old series, but because of the plot, it's a great start to a new series of movies. Go see this movie.

I saw it in digital at the Rave at Northeast Mall, and that was pretty awesome. I have also seen digital at the Cinemark that you mentioned, also awesome. Digital projection is definately a very enjoyable experience.

Well, since the director of this new Star Trek movie (J.J. Abrams) is the executive producer of my favorite new TV show (Fringe), it's a "must see" for me.

Also, I've read that Leonard Nimoy is so impressed with Mr. Abrams that he always takes his calls....impressive.

I've always liked the off-beat, weird and sci-fi genre.

Since I've read that Leonard Nimoy is making a cameo appearance in this movie, here's a trivia question about Leonary Nimoy. What classic sci-fi movie did Leonard Nimoy make an uncredited appearance in. It was uncredited, but he did have a speaking part.

Yeah if you have not seen this screen it is the only one of its kind in this part of the country and I think the only one that Cinemark has nation wide so far. The screen is huge and concave, some of the previews looked 3D. Extra crisp video and sound, it launched March 27, 2009. I was amazed by it, just blew everything else away.

Thought about taking the girlfriend to this last weekend, but decided that I didn't want to kill any shot at all for any lovin that night. She is out of town this weekend, and demanded that I go to ensure my faithfulness.

But seriously, I liked the original series and the first movies with the original cast. Didn't pay attention at all to anything else. Will this movie confuse me?

Spoiler Alert - Highlight below to read text...

It was a great and fun movie... right up to the part where they promoted 3rd year trouble making cadet James T. Kirk to Captain of the Federation's flag ship. They also completely altered the time line with the whole destruction of Vulcan thing, so that opens the franchise up to whole new possibilities... a remake of Wrath of Khan, perhaps??

No. I won't say why, but it makes it very easy to get into for people who've never seen anything Star Trek. And it does so without upsetting oldtimer Star Trek fans.

You shouldn't be. They pretty much explain everything during the film. The only thing you may want to do is read the Memory Alpha article on the TNG episode "Unification" and its second part. It'll explain some questions you may have.

I've been hyped about this movie for almost 3 years, and I've survived the 5-month move from December. I've spammed my friends and coworkers with trailers and film clips and hype. And last Thursday I wasn't disappointed in the least. Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman did it right. The casting, the visuals, the story, all top shelf. True, there wasn't the exploration of something new in the galaxy, but this film was more about internal exploration and building intrinsic relationships that an origin story needs. In my mind, it's just ahead of Batman Begins and Casino Royale, mostly because of my many years of geek Trek love.

I traded my 7pm ticket for the 7:30 DTS showing at the Tinseltown by me, and I'll head down to the Bullock's IMAX early next week to enjoy it again (and again).

And for the diehard purists that can't handle reboots, the "Prime" universe still exists; it's just "over there" for the time being.

Saw it this weekend while the bride was out of town...she is not a big Star Trek fan...so, I got to enjoy it and not worry about her liking it or not...GREAT MOVIE...if you are a fan of Star Trek. Thought the characters were great...Kirk and Spock were perfect...good to see a young Scotty, etc. It really was fun...anyway...a MUST SEE...if you like Star Trek.
