Update From The East Side April 30, 2009

Ok, this just occured no more than an hour ago. I'm on duty and we go to a WalMart on Beach Street and one of our guys, who is hispanic, encounters a distant relative inside the store. During our conversation he mentions his concern over this Swine Flu scare. Now, keep in mind this is a member of a nationality of folks who are deeply rooted in their beliefs and convictions, so much so they have been known to travel in great numbers halfway across the country to go take a look and pray in front of a clear pain of glass that supposedly has the image of Mary etc.... So needless to say, they take things VERY seriously when word of mouth empowers them to be and I greatly admire them for it. However, this individual starts to tell us about all of his concerns and among them are how he couldn't believe there were now 1500 deaths in Mexico from the flu(not even remotely true), but that what had him most worried was that supposedly the U.S. government are starting to consider placing all hispanics in internment camps(even less true)? I kid you not, this guy had his hair up over this and was wanting to know if we had any further information because he had several members of his family who travel back and fourth to Mexico all the time, including his daughter etc. The dude was visibly upset over this and of course we assured him this was not the case at all and updated him on what he needed to know and how to protect him and his family...ie, wash your hands whenever you think about it, especially after handling money, don't cough into their hands etc.

This is the kind of $hit that leads to widespread panic at no telling what cost when knee jerking like this gets out of hand.

Simply amazing.

In reality the United States may see an increase of Mexicans using our hospitals for free medical care. CBL you are correct about global Islamification happening. Thanks for mentioning that.

Exactly right. And I'll tell you at what cost--the cost is guys like you and PD, and other public servants having to stick their necks out more than they already do in order to quell needless collateral damage from this trumped up situation. It's ridiculous.
