Cowboys Take Stephen Mcgee

Pretty gutsy move by Jones and Co. Injuries kept him from really getting the opportunity to prove to fans what he might me able to do in a pro style offense. Sherman must have seen something in him as well for him to get this chance. But he was taken ahead of Rhett Bomar, Graham Harrell, John David Wilson, and Chase McDaniel. I am surprised they would have drafted him, thought he was more of a free agent type. But, looking back on his career at A&M, nobody can question his motor. Maybe they see a resemblance to Romo, who knows.

So the Cowboys signed this guy instead of Pat White out of WVA? This sucks. I was hoping they would pick him up to give Romo some competition, and can still use him as a reciever. Miami picked up White. More and more reasons to be a Dolphins fan.

Miami took Pat White in the 2nd Round, Pick 12 (44th overall), when the Cowboys had their first pick at 2nd/19 (51). The Cowboys didn't pass your man over for McGee.

How are the Cowboys having a bad draft? They needed a lot of help on the defense (and special teams), and drafted an OLB, 2 DEs to help make up for FA losses, 2 CBs, and both a FS and SS. The QB and Kicker are crapshoots, the OT/G will help when one of the old folks goes down with bad knees, a 3rd TE to replace Tony Curtis, and a WR to bolster the receiving corps. This year's draft wasn't that great, according to the "experts," but they still made an effort to pick up what they need.

Im still jealous of the fins. I think that guy is going to be good.

McGee's a good player and athlete. The rest of the guys lists are run-of-the-mill.

Bomar has great athleticism, but can be a head case. He also plays too wild at times. John Parker Wilson and the others have questionable arm strength.

In addition to questionable arm strength, Harrell and Daniel played in gimmicky college offenses that don't translate into pro skills. Daniel has a shot because his college coach has sent guy to the pros before. But, his size and lack of arm strength will probably negate that.

The pro game is just so different. The main thing is, and always will be, speed. Speed from every direction in the pros, every week.

In college, you can go weeks and weeks without seeing a consistent pass rush. In the NFL, every team has defensive ends who can bring it. There is no week off. And, the speed at corner is sick in the League.

Harrell and Daniel dink and dunk skills are nothing in the NFL. When facing the fastest, most consistent teams in their conference - Texas and Oklahoma - Harrell and Daniel didn't fare well. Harrell was 1-2 against both Texas and OU. Daniels never beat either of them, going 0-4 against OU and 0-1 against Texas. The Sooners and Longhorns pummeled Daniels with seemingly little effort.

If they couldn't do it against the top teams in their conference with their gimmicky offenses, there's no way they are going to magically be able to do it in the NFL. Mike Leach can be upset about it and rant and rave about it all he wants. But, history isn't on his side.

To play quarterback in the League, you actually have to have the size and ability to play quarterback. McGee might have it; Bomar...possibly, but very doubtful. The rest...about a snow ball's chance in hell.

McGee is just another case of an overhyped high school recruit that accomplished squat at a big time program. Put his stats at a non-BCS school and he doesn't get drafted. 49ers got the steal of the draft in Nate Davis as far as QB's go. I was hoping Jerruh would be smart enough to take him. Nate would've gone 1st-2nd round had he not rolled craps at the GMAC Bowl.

Interesting that West Texas QB, Keith Null, was drafted by the Rams. West Texas A&M runs the same as Texas Tech. By the way Null is from Lampasas, Texas and was Brock Stickler's QB in high school.

Don Meredith and Sammy Baugh also came to the pros from programs that ran dink and dunk offenses.

Draft is generally a "crap shoot" for every one..do you remember Tony Mandarich. Biggest #1 pick bust in history...in my opinion. Seems to me that rounds 3-5 are where you can get some real bargains and some great "future" NFL players. First round guys "usually" add up to help for teams...maybe not the team that actually drafts them, but with 1st round skills they tend to be some value, second round pretty much OK too, after that???? Time will be the "teller" of this Cowboys draft, but if history is any indication at all...not so good for the 'Boys! We'll see...but, it's pro ball, so so very different than the college game.

It's tough to grade a draft when your all your picks are in the 3rd round and on. It's even tougher for your average fan to get excited when you're drafting guys who play LB, DL, and OL, you aren't gonna find to much name recognition there. Everyone needs to relax till we see these guys in pads. With 12 picks you would think that a few would be able to contribute this year.
