Way back when I was in school and the Greeks system was pretty strong, the frats made a big deal of recruiting athletes. I wonder if that is still the case, I don't think there were enough female athletes back then to worry about, but I also wondered about the if any of the Greeks go after the girls.

Several of my daughter's high school team mates and friends have joined sororities, and they talked about it this summer. My daughter said that she doesn't know of any athletes who are in sororities, and that no one contacted her. I think during the fee vote that the Greeks were strong supporters of the fee, and I'd love to know why that was. If anyone here is a current Greek, I would love to know, especially any that might be in a sorority. Please email me if you don't want to discuss this on the board.

I was also told that the "Honors crowd" opposed both the fee and Greeks, I would be interested in knowing if that sounds right.

The sorority girls will recruit anyone who registers for rush. It's been my observation that commitments such as band or athletics often conflict with the formal rush schedule. Sororities usually do not contact girls who have not registered for and/or participated in rush because they are not allowed to take more than quota, which is based on the number who go through formal rush. (They take the total number of registered girls and divide by the number of sororities to get each group's "quota.") Those sororities with openings can contact unaffiliated girls during "open rush," but most of the groups have as many girls by then as they are allowed to take. I am sure that athletes are a valued commodity, if their schedules allow them to participate in recruitment.
